The Friday evening market on the Cannobio lakefront
The Stalls Under the Stars (Bancarelle sotto le stelle) is the Friday evening event that brings the Cannobio lakefront to life, a pearl of the Verbano region on Lake Maggiore, in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (Piedmont). From mid-May until the beginning of October, when the sun dips behind the mountains and the lights reflect on the water, the promenade along the lake fills with stalls and curious visitors: it is the moment when Cannobio shows its most relaxed and convivial side.
The market, organized by the Arti e Sapori del Nord Ovest association, gathers a varied selection of exhibitors that changes from week to week. Strolling among the stalls, you will encounter:
Admission is free: simply let yourself be carried away by the flow of the promenade, stopping to browse wherever your eye catches something interesting.
Cannobio has long been recognized as an Orange Flag (Bandiera Arancione) village by the Italian Touring Club, a mark of quality that rewards small inland towns for the excellence of their hospitality and heritage. The historic center, with its cobblestone alleys, the Piazza del Lago, and the famous Sunday market—one of the largest and oldest on Lake Maggiore—provides the ideal setting for this evening event, which extends the village's life well beyond daylight hours.
More than just a fair, the Stalls Under the Stars are an opportunity to enjoy the lakefront at sunset: an evening stroll among the stalls, a stop at one of the many venues overlooking the water, and a gaze towards the Lombardy shore and the islands. It is the perfect event for tourists and residents who want to breathe in the Verbano summer without haste, with Lake Maggiore always taking center stage.
The event is weekly, every Friday evening, from the afternoon until late at night. In case of bad weather, the event is canceled, so it is advisable to check weather conditions before heading to Cannobio.
For the 2026 season, the Stalls Under the Stars return punctually to the Cannobio lakefront every Friday evening, from May 15 to October 9. The formula remains the tried and tested one: a long promenade of stalls featuring handicrafts, hobbyist creations, small antiques, and typical products from the Northwest, on the shores of Lake Maggiore.
The season's inauguration is set for Friday, May 15; the event then repeats weekly throughout the summer until the beginning of October. Opening is scheduled from the early afternoon (approximately from 2:00 PM) until about 10:00 PM. Admission is free and the outdoor event is canceled in case of bad weather.
