The Herb Weeks of the Upper Isarco Valley

Berg & Blume / Mountain & Flowers is the summer event that dedicates two full weeks every July to the world of mountain aromatic and medicinal herbs. The heart of the festivities is Colle Isarco (Gossensass), the main village of the Municipality of Brennero in South Tyrol, complemented by the nearby pristine Fleres Valley and the Ladurns hiking area.

An open-air alpine garden

Nestled at an altitude of approximately 1,100 meters at the crossroads of the Isarco Valley and the Fleres Valley, Colle Isarco was already a popular climatic health resort in the 19th century: the poet Henrik Ibsen spent his summers here, drawn by the fresh air and the proximity of the peaks. It is in this setting that the festival weaves together tradition, flavor, and special mountain moments, inviting guests and residents to rediscover the properties and uses of alpine plants.

The program

• Themed hikes and walks to discover herbs with local guides;
• Summer aperitifs in the Botenhof garden, in the Fleres Valley, to learn about medicinal and aromatic plants;
• Magical family hikes following the tracks of ancient legends, with riddles and nature activities;
• "Sounds & Herbs" at the Allriss mountain hut, featuring herbal aperitifs and live music;
• Musical hiking tour "To the Rhythm of the Mountain" with athlete and guide Patrick Staudacher;
• Herb Festival in Ladurns, with traditional homemade herb-based dishes and live music;
• High-altitude concerts, from the musical festival of the Colle Isarco band to acoustic performances at the Stella Alpina mountain refuge;
• Photo contest with a final awards ceremony for the most beautiful mountain images.

Flavor and nature

The common thread of the festival is the bond between herbs and alpine cuisine: from aperitifs in the garden to dinners in mountain huts, the gastronomic experience accompanies every event. Many activities are free or low-cost, often discounted with the activeCARD for guests of the region.

A local event

Organized by the Colle Isarco Tourist Association (Tourismusverein Gossensass), Mountain & Flowers is now a staple of the Upper Isarco Valley summer: an authentic way to experience the Municipality of Brennero and its alpine nature, amidst the silence of the side valleys, herbal knowledge, and South Tyrolean hospitality.
