Three days of sculpture, art, and tradition in Sevignano di Segonzano
The Beghel Symposium is one of the most original events in the Cembra Valley, located in Trentino-Alto Adige. It takes place in Sevignano, a small village within the Municipality of Segonzano (Province of Trento), transforming the streets and squares of the hamlet into an open-air art studio for three days. The central theme is the beghel, the local dialect term for owl: an animal that represents wisdom, mystery, and creativity in local tradition, and has become the symbol of the entire event.
The core of the symposium is sculpture: throughout the festival, artists carve wood and other materials right before the public's eyes, giving shape to their own interpretations of the owl. The finished works are presented and discussed at the end of the event and, most importantly, remain in the village, enriching a true open-air museum that visitors can enjoy while strolling through the streets of Sevignano long after the festival ends. The artistic direction is led by Egidio Petri.
Alongside the sculpture, the program is packed with activities for all ages. Evenings are filled with concerts and live music, featuring local bands and dance parties, while the afternoons offer creative workshops—covering painting, clay modeling, and fermented foods—as well as a craft and hobbyist market. There are also readings for children, traditional games, the 'Beghel Hunt', and social gatherings like the 'Happy Beghel Hour'.
The Beghel Symposium also celebrates the landscape and products of the valley. In collaboration with the Cembra–Avisio Reserve Network, nature walks are organized through the woods and terraces that define this corner of Trentino. The street food stalls offer local specialties, paired with tastings of Cembrani D.O.C. wines and local liqueurs, giving visitors an authentic taste of the Cembra Valley's culinary culture.
Organized by the Sevignano Pro Loco in partnership with the Confraternita del Beghel, the symposium is, above all, a village festival that brings generations and visitors together. Since its inception in 2018, the event has grown year after year to become a highly anticipated summer highlight in the Cembra Valley, where contemporary art, folk tradition, and community life intertwine in a simple, welcoming atmosphere.
The ninth edition of the Beghel Symposium was held in Sevignano di Segonzano from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28, 2026, confirming the event as one of the most distinctive summer highlights of the Cembra Valley. Sculptors worked live throughout the event, while the village came alive with concerts, creative workshops, a market, and street food featuring local products.
Friday, June 26: from 1:00 PM, artists begin their work; 5:00 PM–7:00 PM Happy Beghel Hour; 7:00 PM official inauguration with authorities and the local band; from 9:00 PM children's readings, music by Niutenti, and DJ set.
Saturday, June 27: 9:00 AM nature walk with the Cembra–Avisio Reserve Network; from 10:00 AM market and artistic workshops (painting, clay, fermented foods); in the afternoon, traditional games and live music with Recover and The Rewind.
Sunday, June 28: from 10:00 AM market and workshops; 2:00 PM Beghel Hunt for children; 3:00 PM water battle; 4:00 PM lottery prize drawing; 6:00 PM closing with exhibition and commentary on the works created.
Sevignano is a village in the Municipality of Segonzano, in the Cembra Valley (Province of Trento). By car, it can be reached from Trento by traveling up the Cembra Valley along the SS612 road; the village is located at the southern end of the municipal territory, bordering Lona-Lases. Parking is available near the village.
Access to the event and exhibitions is free. Any tastings, workshops, or street food purchases are paid directly to the individual stands.
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and suitable footwear for walking through the village streets and participating in the nature walks in the surrounding area. The sculptures created remain on display in the village even after the event.
