Beer, Nebrodi black pork mortadella, and comedy in a Nebrodi village
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Beer and Mortadella Sandwich Festival is one of the most beloved gastronomic events of the summer in Sant'Angelo di Brolo, an ancient medieval village in the Nebrodi Mountains in the province of Messina, Sicily. Every August, the historic center comes alive for an evening dedicated to authentic local flavors, in a festive atmosphere that unites the local community with the many visitors who travel up to the village.
The absolute star of the festival is the Nebrodi black pork mortadella, a local delicacy from a region renowned for pig farming and artisanal charcuterie production. Sant'Angelo di Brolo is one of the most important centers for Nebrodi cured meats: the mortadella sandwich, prepared with local ingredients, is the heart of the event, served alongside a selection of draught beer. The festival was created specifically to promote local products and strengthen the social bonds of the village.
Beyond the culinary experience, the festival offers music and entertainment. The 2025 edition, the sixth, featured special guest comedian and actor Giovanni Cacioppo with his stand-up monologue "Ho scagliato la prima pietra" (I cast the first stone), a show with an ironic and direct style that drew a large crowd to Largo San Michele. The combination of food, beer, and comedy has become the hallmark of this event.
The village of Sant'Angelo di Brolo, in the Municipality of the same name within the Metropolitan City of Messina, is one of the gems of the Nebrodi, rich in religious architecture linked to the presence of Basilian monks and a history rooted in the Norman era. The festival is also an opportunity to discover the town and its food and wine heritage, particularly its famous local cured meats.
The Beer and Mortadella Sandwich Festival in Sant'Angelo di Brolo returns, as every summer, in the month of August at Largo San Michele. At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the Municipality of Sant'Angelo di Brolo: the detailed program, including any guests and shows, will be communicated through the official municipal channels in the weeks leading up to the event.
The popular formula of the event is confirmed: Nebrodi black pork mortadella sandwiches, draught beer, local products, and an evening of music and comedy. It is recommended to check the Municipality's Facebook page for updated information on dates and the program.
