A Bavarian evening in Trentino

The Bavarian Festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in Canal San Bovo, a village in the Vanoi Valley in the province of Trento, nestled in the heart of the Primiero district at the foot of the Paneveggio - Pale di San Martino Natural Park. Organized by the Pro Loco Canal San Bovo - Gobbera, the event transforms the town center for one night into a corner of Bavaria, complete with traditional costumes, beer, authentic cuisine, and live music.

Tastes and traditions from across the Alps

The heart of the festival is the food stall set up under the festival marquee, where visitors can sample Bavarian and Tyrolean culinary specialties paired with excellent beer. The menu highlights the hearty, convivial flavors of Alpine tradition, from pork dishes (the famous Schweinshaxen) to classic sides, all in a cheerful atmosphere reminiscent of great Central European popular gatherings.

Music, folklore, and entertainment

The evening is brought to life by groups showcasing German-speaking Alpine traditions. Past highlights include the Schuhplattler, dancers who perform the characteristic Tyrolean dance by striking their hands, thighs, and shoe soles, and the Goaslschnöllen from Latzfons, who crack long herder's whips in a spectacular rhythmic display. The musical program also features the band Die Schweinhaxen and, in some editions, an exhibition of ancient crafts that celebrates the local artisanal culture.

The Bavarian Festival is part of a rich calendar of summer events organized by the Pro Loco and local associations, including starlit markets, Ferragosto celebrations, and the Sagra de San Bortol. Canal San Bovo, immersed in one of the most authentic and tranquil valleys in Trentino, offers residents and vacationers a festive occasion that blends the convivial spirit of the mountains with the charm of Bavarian traditions.

When and where

The event is traditionally held in mid-August, starting at 7:00 PM at the festival marquee in the center of Canal San Bovo. Admission is free, and the evening is open to everyone, including families.
