Bauso Wine, wine at the heart of the Tyrrhenian village

Bauso Wine is one of the most cherished food and wine events in Villafranca Tirrena, a town in the province of Messina overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The festival was created to promote Sicilian wine production and, in particular, the excellence of the Messina area, bringing together dozens of wineries, their appellation wines, and a carefully curated gastronomic selection in a single evening. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Villafranca Tirrena with the patronage of the municipal administration.

From Bauso Castle to the Municipal Villa

For many editions, Bauso Wine took place in the suggestive setting of Bauso Castle, an ancient manor steeped in history that, with its gardens and halls, gave the event a unique atmosphere. In 2023, the festival reached the milestone of its tenth edition, a sign of the continuity that has made it a highly anticipated appointment in the local summer calendar. In subsequent years, the event moved to larger spaces in the town, including the Falcone and Borsellino Municipal Villa and the hamlet of Calvaruso, while keeping its original spirit intact.

Wines, wineries, and the Taste Zone

The heart of Bauso Wine lies in its tasting counters: over thirty wineries present their DOC and IGT labels, from crisp whites to more structured reds, showcasing the variety of the Sicilian wine landscape. The wine selection was previously entrusted to Claudio Ferrara, head of the European Sommelier School, ensuring the quality of the offering. Alongside the wines, the Taste Zone, curated by the Messina Chefs Association, offers gastronomic pairings and gourmet reinterpretations of street food that highlight local flavors.

Music and conviviality

The evening is not just about tasting: live musical accompaniment, featuring jazz ensembles and local bands, helps create a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. Between glasses, visitors stroll among the stands, discover producers and specialties, and experience the village in a festive guise, during one of the most popular evenings of the Villafranca summer.

An appointment for the territory

Bauso Wine is much more than a simple wine fair: it is an opportunity to promote the Municipality of Villafranca Tirrena and the entire province of Messina, enhancing the small and medium-sized wine and food companies of Sicily. The event combines tourism, oenological culture, and tradition, offering residents and visitors a journey through the flavors and aromas of the Sicilian land.
