Two days of music, nature, and ancestral traditions in the heart of the Sicani Mountains
Battiti Sicani – Primitivo Festival is an experiential event set in the Santa Caterina recreational area, nestled in the lush landscape of Castronovo di Sicilia, within the Metropolitan City of Palermo, in the heart of the Sicani Mountains. More than just a music festival, it is a cultural and territorial project designed to rediscover the deep bond between music, nature, collective memory, and ancestral Sicilian traditions.
Promoted by Meta Sicilia in collaboration with the Municipality of Castronovo di Sicilia, the festival transforms the Santa Caterina woods into an immersive space where Mediterranean rhythms, experiential workshops, excursions, and authentic encounters unfold over two intense, timeless days.
The first day, titled "Rooting and Rhythm", is dedicated to welcoming guests, the symbolic opening of the festival, and experiential activities such as forest bathing, Sicani weaving, ancestral rhythm practices, and demonstrations of Sicilian folk traditions. In the evening, the area comes alive with live music and Mediterranean electronic sounds.
The second day, "Nature and Awareness", focuses on exploring the territory: ethnobotanical trekking dedicated to medicinal herbs, sound-rooting practices in contact with trees, dialogues on folk wisdom, and the evocative demonstration of Sicilian stick fighting.
The area features a campsite, social spaces, food & beverage points, and local craft stalls. Many activities take place simultaneously, allowing each participant to create their own path through sounds, workshops, and experiences, enjoying a slow pace among the forest, music, and people.
A village in the Palermo hinterland, Castronovo di Sicilia preserves a natural and cultural heritage that the festival fully highlights. The setting of the Sicani Mountains, with its woods and authentic landscapes, makes Battiti Sicani an opportunity to discover an inland Sicily often off the beaten track, where tradition and contemporary musical research meet.
Admission is free: only a few specific workshops require a small contribution to cover material costs. An open, participatory, and environmentally conscious festival, designed to build a community around the values of nature, music, and collective memory.
The 2026 edition of Battiti Sicani – Primitivo Festival was held on June 6 and 7, 2026, at the Santa Caterina recreational area in the woods of Castronovo di Sicilia. The first day, "Rooting and Rhythm," offered forest bathing, Sicani weaving, ancestral rhythm practices, and an evening of live music with Mediterranean electronic sounds. The second, "Nature and Awareness," featured ethnobotanical trekking on medicinal herbs, sound-rooting among the trees, and a demonstration of Sicilian stick fighting.
The stage featured Nuvaria, Libero Reina, Sonido Cumbia Libre, Vincenzo La Barbera, and Davide Di Rosolini. Offerings included workshops on building the drum and the Panaro siciliano, as well as a campsite, food & beverage, and local crafts.
The festival takes place at the Santa Caterina recreational area in the territory of Castronovo di Sicilia (PA), in the Sicani Mountains. By car, it can be reached from the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (exit towards the hinterland) or the SS189 road towards Castronovo di Sicilia. A car is recommended given its location immersed in nature.
Free admission. Some workshops (building the drum and the Panaro siciliano) require a small contribution for materials. A campsite, social spaces, food & beverage points, and local crafts are available.
Bring comfortable trekking shoes, outdoor clothing, and water. The days include activities in the woods: sun and insect protection is recommended.
