A summer of culture on Lake Barrea

Barrea Summer Suggestions is the summer festival that accompanies life in the village of Barrea, in the Province of L'Aquila, one of the most picturesque towns in Abruzzo, for several weeks. Perched above the artificial lake that bears its name, in the heart of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, Barrea transforms into a crossroads of culture, music, art, and tradition, where every evening offers a new event.

A widespread program across squares and viewpoints

The festival does not have a single stage: theatrical and musical performances are held in Piazza Umberto I, Piazza Mammarino, on the Belvedere, and in other corners of the historic center, while art exhibitions find space in the Town Hall and among the village alleys. These are joined by book presentations, open-air film screenings, meetings with artists and authors, games for children, and excursions into the nature of the Park.

Festivals, food fairs, and traditions

The summer program also embraces the events most deeply rooted in the village's identity: the patronal feast of Santa Maria delle Grazie, with its religious and civil celebrations, the Orapi Festival dedicated to the wild mountain herb that symbolizes local cuisine, and the return of the "Sounds on the Lake" Folk Festival, which brings folk music and traditional dances to the shores of the lake, shared with the neighboring villages of Villetta Barrea and Civitella Alfedena.

A village to discover

Those attending the festival can combine the events with the discovery of Barrea's heritage: the monumental Castle, the evocative Bat Room, the Antiquarium of the Safine civilization, and the "Barrea Diffused Museum" system. Walks along the lake, Park trails, and mountain panoramas complete an experience where culture, nature, and gastronomy intertwine.

Organizers

The festival is curated by the Pro Loco Vallis Regia of Barrea APS in collaboration with the Municipal Administration of Barrea, local associations, and the village's commercial sector, with the aim of promoting the village and welcoming residents and visitors throughout the summer season and beyond.
