A city-wide carnival celebration across the districts of the Apulian capital
The Bari Carnival does not feature a single parade route; instead, it is experienced as a grand city-wide celebration that spans every neighborhood, from the city center to the coastal suburbs. In the Municipality of Bari, the capital of Puglia, the five districts (Municipi) coordinate the calendar alongside local schools, parishes, associations, Pro Loco groups, and various sports and cultural organizations. The result is a mosaic of events that, for several days, fills squares, streets, parks, and seafronts with parades, workshops, entertainment, music, and dance.
Each neighborhood brings its own unique tradition. In San Paolo, papier-mâché floats parade with mascots and jugglers; in Carbonara and Ceglie del Campo, hundreds of children and families bring the parade organized by the School Council to life; in Loseto, the Historic Loseto Carnival, a tradition active for decades, makes its return. By the sea, the village of Santo Spirito transforms into a themed route with parades along the promenade, while in San Pio, the Cuornevale - Carnival of the Heart offers a community festival born from themes of embrace and solidarity.
The heart of the Bari Carnival is its youngest participants. Creative workshops, costume games, bubble shows, entertainment, and the traditional Pentolaccia Party mark the days. Many events conclude with moments of sharing in neighborhood libraries and community spaces, creating an atmosphere of joy designed for all ages.
Unlike the large historic Apulian carnivals, such as the nearby one in Putignano, the Bari Carnival chooses a neighborhood-based approach: simple yet well-attended events, built from the ground up by local entities. It is an opportunity to rediscover the identity of the city's various areas, from the city center to the northern coastal villages, and to experience the carnival spirit as a popular, free, and open festival for everyone.
The 2026 Bari Carnival took place from February 13th to 17th as a grand city-wide celebration across the five districts. On Friday, February 13th, in San Pio, the fourth edition of the Cuornevale - Carnival of the Heart was promoted by the Parish of the Nativity of Our Lord alongside schools and associations. On Saturday, February 14th, in San Paolo, the Carnival in Joy - Let's Care for the World parade featured floats and entertainment, and in Loseto, the flashmob of the Historic Loseto Carnival took place in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. On Sunday, February 15th, in Santo Spirito, the Carnival 2026... on the net was inspired by Alice in Wonderland, with a parade along the village and promenade; in the Carbonara and Ceglie del Campo districts, the District 4 parade, themed around Disney, featured about 500 children and families.
On Monday, February 16th, the Carnival event was held at the Leo Dell'Acqua sports center in Carbonara, free and for all ages. Tuesday, February 17th, marked the final day with the Carnival Party at the Cagnazzi Library (District 2) and the traditional Pentolaccia Party at the Orto della Serenità in District 4.
Bari is accessible by train (Bari Centrale station), by car via the A14 motorway, and by plane from Bari-Palese Airport. Events take place in various neighborhoods: the center and the districts are served by urban buses and metropolitan railway lines for the coastal areas (Santo Spirito, Palese).
Carnival events in the districts are free and open to everyone. The detailed program of parades, times, and locations is published by the Municipality of Bari and individual districts in the days leading up to the event. It is recommended to check for any changes due to bad weather.
