Giovinazzo's Christmas festival featuring lights, markets, and nativity scenes
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Natale al Centro is the extensive program of events with which the Municipality of Giovinazzo celebrates the holiday season, from early December through Epiphany. Giovinazzo, an elegant seaside town in the Metropolitan City of Bari, Puglia, transforms its historic center overlooking the Adriatic for an entire month into a trail of lights, music, and tradition. Festive lights illuminate the alleys, squares, and the ancient port, while local associations, parishes, schools, and the Pro Loco collaborate with the municipal administration to fill the calendar with events.
The beating heart of the festival is the Christmas market, set up in the evocative Sala San Felice: stalls featuring handicrafts, local products, decorations, and gift ideas bring the center to life on the weekends leading up to the holidays. The lighting of the tree in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II marks the official start of the Christmas season, accompanied by shows, street bands, and the warm atmosphere of the festive lights.
Among the most beloved attractions is the nativity scene exhibition curated by the AIAP in the crypt of the Co-Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, where handcrafted nativity scenes tell a different story each year. Children can visit Santa's Grotto and the dedicated village, while the spectacular arrival of Santa Claus and, on Epiphany, the Befana in the square bring the festivities to a joyful close. There are also free guided tours to discover the old town and its sites linked to the traditions of Saint Nicholas and Saint Lucy.
The musical program spans the entire month: choirs, concerts in churches, and above all, the Oltre Lirica festival, which brings grand opera and classical music to Sala San Felice during the final days of the year. On New Year's Eve, the community gathers in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II for a New Year's party with live music until late at night.
Almost all Natale al Centro events are free and held outdoors, designed to be enjoyed with the whole family. It is the perfect opportunity to discover Giovinazzo in its most intimate and festive guise, strolling through the medieval historic center, the cathedral, and the seafront during one of the most enchanting seasons of the year.
The Municipality of Giovinazzo has not yet released the dates and program for the 2026 edition of Natale al Centro. As this is a recurring Christmas festival, we expect another month of events this coming December, including festive lights, markets in Sala San Felice, the nativity scene exhibition, Santa's Grotto, and the New Year's Eve party in the square. This page will be updated with times, locations, and the lineup as soon as the official program is announced.
Events take place in the historic center of Giovinazzo (BA), primarily in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, Sala San Felice, the Co-Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, and along the Marina Italiana.
Giovinazzo is located about 20 km north of Bari, along the Adriatic coast. It is accessible by train (Bari–Barletta line) and via the SS16 state road. It is about a 20-minute drive from Bari-Palese Airport.
Most events are free to attend. For indoor exhibitions and concerts, it is recommended to check schedules and any potential booking requirements on the Municipality of Giovinazzo's official channels.
