The international organ festival at the Church of Santa Maria Veterana in Triggiano
OrgaNova – Santa Maria del Passo International Season is the international organ festival that brings life to Triggiano, a town in the Metropolitan City of Bari, Apulia, alongside the neighboring town of Mola di Bari. Originally established as the Santa Maria del Passo International Organ Festival, it reaches its 17th edition in 2026, confirming a project that weaves together sacred music, classical repertoire, and other art forms, creating a true cultural twinning between the two communities.
In Triggiano, the concerts take place in the Church of Santa Maria Veterana, the mother church of the historic center and the spiritual heart of the city. Its organ becomes the protagonist of evenings where music interacts with the human voice, period instruments, poetry, drama, and even classic silent cinema. It is here that the festival presents some of its most evocative performances every year, in an intimate and charming atmosphere.
The artistic direction is entrusted to organist Margherita Sciddurlo, who selects Italian and international performers and crafts each concert as a thematic journey, spanning from the Middle Ages to the Baroque and contemporary styles. Alongside guest soloists, the ensembles and choirs of the "Nino Rota" Conservatory of Monopoli take the stage, fostering a constant dialogue between great masters and young talents.
OrgaNova is more than just an organ concert series: over the seasons, music has been combined with poetry, acting, percussion, and visuals, with events that have accompanied silent films like Charlie Chaplin's "City Lights" or celebrated anniversaries and spiritual figures. This multidisciplinary approach makes every evening a unique experience, capable of speaking to sacred music enthusiasts, curious audiences, and families alike.
The festival is promoted and organized by the Arte & Musica Cultural Association, in collaboration with the Pasquale Battista Foundation of Triggiano and the Municipality of Mola di Bari, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Apulia Region. Admission to all concerts is free until capacity is reached, reflecting its popular vocation and openness to the local area.
In 2026, the OrgaNova season reaches its 17th edition, featuring five concerts in Triggiano at the Church of Santa Maria Veterana, from January to December. The opening, on Tuesday, January 6, is entrusted to the madrigal group of the "Nino Rota" Conservatory of Monopoli with "L'amor che move il sole e l'altre stelle," a journey spanning from the Middle Ages to Debussy. The highlight of the spring is the concert by Filippo Sorcinelli (May 3), a multifaceted artist who combines organ and perfumes in a synesthetic experience.
The season continues in the autumn with the "Florilegio agostiniano" (September 16), the tribute to Saint Francis of Assisi on the eighth centenary of his death (November 8), and the Christmas concert "Aurea Luce" (December 12). All events offer free admission until capacity is reached, under the artistic direction of Margherita Sciddurlo.
The festival also includes numerous concerts in Mola di Bari, featuring national and international organists, from February to December.
