The festive holiday program in the heart of Valenzano
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every year, between December and Epiphany, Valenzanoโa town of about 17,000 inhabitants in the Metropolitan City of Bari, Apuliaโdresses its alleys and squares with lights, markets, and events for all ages. Christmas in Valenzano is not just a single event but a true widespread program: about twenty initiatives distributed throughout the town's neighborhoods, promoted by the Municipality of Valenzano in collaboration with local associations, parishes, and community groups.
The festivities kick off in Largo Plebiscito, the town's historic and commercial heart, with the lighting of the Christmas tree and an evening dedicated to children. From that moment on, the center comes alive with events that continue non-stop until January 6th: Santa's house opens its doors in Piazza Padreterno, Christmas markets brighten up Largo Plebiscito during the peak days of Advent, while lights and decorations guide visitors through the streets of the center.
Music is one of the souls of the festival. In past editions, Largo Plebiscito has hosted highly attended evenings, ranging from gospel choirs to shows designed for families and young people, as well as free concerts by popular artists like Giorgio Vanni, the voice of cartoon theme songs loved by entire generations. The musical events, almost always with free admission, attract audiences from neighboring towns and turn the square into a great meeting point.
The Christmas period in Valenzano maintains a strong bond with Apulian popular tradition: nativity scenes set up in the historic center, animation moments, and initiatives curated by local associations. The closing is entrusted to the day of Epiphany, with the spectacular descent of the Speleobefana from the exterior wall of the Santa Maria di Loreto church, promoted by the Speleological Group and the Bari section of the Italian Alpine Club: a suggestive event that combines tradition, spectacle, and community.
The strength of Christmas in Valenzano lies in its local dimension: free events, distributed in squares and neighborhoods, designed to let citizens and visitors experience the holiday atmosphere without having to travel to nearby Bari. It is an opportunity to rediscover the town center, support local businesses, and gather, between a market stall and a concert, in the most authentic spirit of the holidays.
The program for the 2026 edition of Christmas in Valenzano has not yet been published. Based on previous editions, the festival is expected to enliven the town center from early December until January 6th, with markets, free concerts, Santa's house, and activities for children and families. As soon as the Municipality of Valenzano releases the official dates and events, the calendar will be updated.
Events take place mainly in Largo Plebiscito, Piazza Padreterno, and the historic center of Valenzano (BA), as well as in various neighborhoods of the town.
Valenzano is located just a few kilometers from Bari. By car, it can be reached via the SS 100 (Bari-Taranto) taking the exit for Valenzano; the center is also served by bus connections from the regional capital. The reference railway stations are those of Bari, from which you can continue with local bus lines.
Most events, including markets and concerts in the square, are free of charge.
Program and updates are available on the official channels of the Municipality of Valenzano.
