The food and wine festival celebrating Barbera and Monferrato cuisine
Barberando is the food and wine festival that brings Costigliole d'Asti to life every March. Located in one of the most renowned wine-growing villages in the Province of Asti, in the heart of the Piedmontese Monferrato among UNESCO-listed hills, the event has a clear goal: to showcase the Barbera produced in the Costigliole area and pair it with the excellence of local cuisine, creating a journey that connects wineries, restaurants, and sommeliers.
The heart of Barberando lies in the fixed-price tasting menus offered by participating local restaurants: traditional Piedmontese dishes such as agnolotti, local meats, and aged cheeses, carefully paired with wines from Costigliole wineries and grappas distilled from Barbera pomace. Each event is an opportunity to discover how the same grape variety, crafted by different hands, can express unique nuances and distinct crus.
Beyond the dining table, the festival offers blind tastings led by professional sommeliers, designed to help guests recognize the characteristics of Costigliole Barbera and approach wine with greater awareness. On the event Sundays, it is also possible to visit the Castle of Costigliole d'Asti and explore art exhibitions organized by the Department of Culture, blending the culinary experience with the village's historical and artistic heritage.
Barberando is promoted by the Municipality of Costigliole d'Asti in collaboration with the "Noi di Costigliole" Producers' Association, which brings together the village's wineries. More than just a local festival, it is a shared promotional tool that strengthens the identity of Costigliole Barbera and guides visitors through one of the most authentic wine regions in Piedmont.
The third edition of Barberando brought four events dedicated to Barbera and Monferrato cuisine to Costigliole d'Asti, with the participation of 6 restaurants, 31 wine producers, and 2 local distilleries united by the "Noi di Costigliole" Association. Participating restaurants offered tasting menus pairing traditional Piedmontese dishes with local wines, accompanied by blind tastings led by professional sommeliers, castle tours, and art exhibitions curated by the Department of Culture.
