Abruzzo wine takes center stage in the medieval village of Montepagano
The Montepagano Wine Exhibition, now also known as Baccano, is one of the longest-running and most acclaimed wine festivals in Abruzzo. Established in 1972, it takes place in the charming medieval village of Montepagano, a hillside hamlet of Roseto degli Abruzzi, in the province of Teramo. For three evenings, the historic center—with its ancient walls, stone alleys, and panoramic views stretching from the Adriatic coast to the Gran Sasso—becomes a sprawling stage dedicated to wine and regional food and wine culture.
Each edition brings together around forty Abruzzo producers who bring the region's most iconic labels to Montepagano. In the glasses, you will find the great wines of the region—Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Cerasuolo, Trebbiano, Pecorino, and Passerina—alongside productions from small artisanal estates. The event has established itself as a benchmark for dialogue between producers, institutions, and enthusiasts, and is presented annually at Vinitaly in Verona within the Abruzzo Region pavilion.
The Baccano program goes beyond just pouring wine. The evenings—which kick off at 7:00 PM—offer a true sensory journey featuring guided tastings, masterclasses, workshops, and meetings with winemakers and producers. There is no shortage of performances and live music to accompany visitors between sips, while food stalls offer typical Abruzzo flavors, from porchetta to seafood dishes from the Roseto coastline.
Organized by the Municipality of Roseto degli Abruzzi in collaboration with local and institutional partners, the Montepagano Wine Exhibition attracts thousands of visitors—over thirteen thousand attendees in the last edition—who choose the village to experience a blend of oenology, tradition, and landscape. The event is a key element in promoting tourism in the Teramo hinterland and the entire province, helping to showcase Abruzzo's viticultural identity far beyond regional borders.
From July 31 to August 2, 2026, the village of Montepagano, in Roseto degli Abruzzi, hosts the 54th edition of Baccano – Montepagano Wine Exhibition. Presented at Vinitaly 2026 in Verona within the Abruzzo Region pavilion, the event confirms its role as a showcase for regional oenology.
Around 40 Abruzzo wineries and numerous local food and wine producers are expected. The evening program, which comes to life from 7:00 PM, offers guided tastings, masterclasses, workshops, and live music in the alleys of the historic center. Info and bookings: +39 392 7296942 – [email protected].
