About Baccalà Village

Baccalà Village is a traveling gastronomic festival created by chef Antonio Peluso, owner of the Locanda del Baccalà in Marcianise. In August 2025, it chose the Archaeological Park of Nocera Superiore, in the province of Salerno, for one of its most acclaimed stops. Three evenings of free admission featuring food stalls, show cooking, and tastings dedicated to salt cod, accompanied by live music and comedy shows under the stars. A simple, popular format that blends Mediterranean cuisine, tradition, and entertainment in a truly evocative archaeological setting.

The traveling salt cod festival

Baccalà Village is not your typical food festival: it is a genuine traveling gastronomic village conceived by chef Antonio Peluso, founder of the Locanda del Baccalà in Marcianise. Every summer, he brings a format built entirely around a single star ingredient—salt cod—to various locations across Campania. Launched in 2022 as Italy's first traveling festival dedicated to this product, the tour has visited several Campanian towns, and in the summer of 2025, it made its debut in Nocera Superiore, in the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese area of Salerno province.

An archaeological backdrop in the heart of Campania

The chosen venue is the Archaeological Park of Nocera Superiore, one of the town's most iconic landmarks. Stalls, tables, and the stage are set up right next to the archaeological site, which preserves traces of ancient Nuceria, a key hub in Roman Campania. Dining outdoors in such a setting, with soft lighting and ancient ruins in the background, is one of the reasons why the Nocera stop was among the most popular on the tour.

Salt cod in all its forms

The Baccalà Village menu is designed to showcase the versatility of a product that is deeply rooted in the collective memory of Campanian families. Among the most requested dishes during the Nocera edition were:

  • Fusilli with salt cod and crusco pepper, one of chef Peluso's signature dishes;
  • Fried pizza with salt cod, capers, and olives, a seafood twist on a classic Neapolitan staple;
  • Montanara with tomato and salt cod, crispy and generous;
  • Appetizers, fried snacks, and delicacies served at the stalls alongside wine or beer.

Alongside the food stalls, there are show cooking sessions and guided tastings that introduce the public to the preparation of salt cod, its Mediterranean history, and how to cook it at home.

Music, theater, and comedy every night

The village format features a free show on stage every evening: tribute bands, concerts, and comedy acts rotate until midnight. The programming is intentionally popular and broad, appealing to families, groups of friends, and curious visitors from neighboring towns. Admission to the food and performance areas is completely free: you only pay for what you choose to eat and drink.

An event for all ages

With its evening hours and affordable prices, Baccalà Village is perfect for a family outing. The park's spacious layout allows for easy movement, the menus are designed for those who want to sample a bit of everything while strolling between stalls, and the stage adds rhythm to the evening without turning it into a full-scale concert. It is the kind of summer event that fills town squares across Campania: good food, honest prices, music, and no barriers to entry.

Nocera Superiore and its summer

Baccalà Village is part of the summer calendar of the Municipality of Nocera Superiore, which every year offers a series of events spread across the Archaeological Park, the Matteo and Alfonso Fresa Urban Park, and other city spaces, featuring theatrical performances, concerts, historical re-enactments, and events dedicated to the flavors of ancient Nuceria. For those visiting Campania in August, the Nocera stop is also a convenient way to combine food, wine, and archaeology just a few kilometers from the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, and Salerno.

2026 Edition: What we know

As of the writing of this guide, no official dates have been announced for a 2026 edition of Baccalà Village in Nocera Superiore; the municipal summer program published in July 2026 does not include the event. As the festival is itinerant, stops and schedules can change from year to year. We recommend checking for updates on the channels of chef Antonio Peluso and the Municipality before planning your visit.
