About Diano Street Food

From July 29 to August 5, 2026, the grounds of the Certosa di San Lorenzo in Padula host Diano Street Food, the Vallo di Diano flavor village born within the Certosa Village. Over twenty traditional peasant and monastic dishes—hand-made cavatelli, Padula harvest meatballs (De.Co.), ruosp, sciurilli, zeppole, and caciocavallo—accompany the arena shows every evening, paired with Cilento wines. Admission to the food area is free.

A village of taste at the foot of the Certosa

Diano Street Food is the big news for summer 2026 in Padula, a town in the province of Salerno in the heart of the Vallo di Diano, Campania. Born as part of the Certosa Village festival, the food village occupies the outdoor spaces of the Certosa di San Lorenzo—the largest Charterhouse in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage site—and runs every evening from July 29 to August 5. The stands open in the late afternoon and stay active until late at night, allowing those arriving for a show to dine beforehand or stroll among the stalls after the concert.

Over twenty local dishes

The project's philosophy is simple: to tell the story of the Vallo di Diano through its flavors, starting from monastic-inspired recipes linked to the history of the Certosa, up to the popular preparations that still define the identity of the valley's towns today. The menu features more than twenty dishes, all deeply rooted in the local agricultural tradition.

  • Hand-made cavatelli, served with meat sauces or valley legumes
  • Polpette della Mietitura Padulese De.Co., the town's signature dish, linked to field work and recognized with a municipal designation
  • Ruosp, the traditional Padula anchovy fritters
  • Sciurilli, battered fried zucchini flowers
  • Zeppole and other street-food style fried treats
  • Caciocavallo and local stretched-curd cheeses

Cilento wine tastings

Alongside the food, the gastronomic area hosts a section dedicated to tasting wines from the De Conciliis winery, one of the most representative names in Cilento viticulture. The list includes labels such as Bacioilcielo, Donnaluna in both Fiano and Aglianico versions, and Selim, a Classic Method sparkling wine. A selection that broadens the focus from the Vallo di Diano to the entire Salerno region.

Inside the Certosa Village

Diano Street Food doesn't stand alone: it is one of the souls of Certosa Village, the format that transforms the square and gardens of the Certosa into a temporary village of music, theater, crafts, and exhibitions every summer. In the same area, you will find the CertosArte market dedicated to artisan workshops, stone art displays, information points, and activities for children. Access to the village is free: you only pay for tickets to the arena shows.

Why this project matters to the region

The organizers have a clear goal: to turn taste into a collective narrative capable of showcasing the people, associations, companies, and traditions that represent the authentic soul of the area. In practice, this means giving visible space to producers, local pro loco associations, and operators who guard recipes that would otherwise remain confined to home kitchens, during the time of year when the Vallo di Diano welcomes the most visitors.

Padula and the Certosa di San Lorenzo

Founded in 1306, the Certosa di San Lorenzo is the monument that has made Padula a mandatory stop on any itinerary in Southern Campania: the great cloister, the elliptical staircase, and the monastic kitchens tell seven centuries of history. Visiting Diano Street Food is also a chance to see this complex in a different, lively evening light, with the Baroque facade serving as a backdrop to the tables and stands.

Tips for your visit

  • Arrive early: evenings with big names in the arena draw large crowds, and the stands get busy right after sunset
  • You can visit the village even without a show ticket
  • Combine it with a daytime visit to the Certosa and a detour to the historic center of Padula or the surrounding valley towns

Diano Street Food — edition 2026

The first edition of Diano Street Food takes place from July 29 to August 5, 2026, in the outdoor spaces of the Certosa di San Lorenzo in Padula, inside the Certosa Village. Over twenty traditional Vallo di Diano dishes, from monastic cuisine to De.Co. harvest meatballs, plus a section dedicated to wines from the De Conciliis winery. Free entry to the food area every evening, with stands open from late afternoon until night.

Diano Street Food 2026: the inaugural edition

Announced at the end of June 2026, Diano Street Food debuts as the permanent food village of the Certosa Village festival. For eight consecutive evenings, from July 29 to August 5, the courtyard of the Certosa di San Lorenzo in Padula hosts stands from producers and associations of the Vallo di Diano, in the province of Salerno.

The menu features more than twenty dishes: hand-made cavatelli with meat or legume sauces, Polpette della Mietitura Padulese De.Co., ruosp (anchovy fritters), sciurilli, zeppole, and caciocavallo, with some dishes inspired by the monastic cuisine linked to the history of the Certosa. The wine selection is curated by the De Conciliis winery of Cilento, featuring Bacioilcielo, Donnaluna (Fiano and Aglianico), and the Selim Classic Method sparkling wine.

The food area complements the arena's performance calendar, which in 2026 brings Carolina Benvenga, Fiorella Mannoia, Vincenzo Salemme, and Massimo Ranieri to Padula, and coexists with the CertosArte artisan market and other village activities. Access to the stands is free and does not require a concert ticket.
