About Cammenanne Spuzzuliànne

Every summer, the historic centre of Sicignano degli Alburni transforms into a long trail of taste: Cammenanne Spuzzuliànne, literally meaning "walking and snacking," invites you to stroll through the alleys, courtyards, and small squares of the village while sampling traditional Alburni dishes. Stone arches, hanging lights, and outdoor tables set the scene for two August evenings where gastronomy, art, music, and performances showcase the identity of this corner of the Salerno province, nestled at the foot of the mountains.

Walking and snacking in the heart of the Alburni

The name says it all. In the local dialect, «cammenanne… spuzzuliànne» means walking while tasting, snacking here and there without any rush: and that is exactly what happens every summer in the historic centre of Sicignano degli Alburni, in the province of Salerno. For two consecutive evenings, the village alleys turn into one long, open-air food and wine trail. There is no single square or marquee: you walk, climbing up and down the stone streets, stopping at a stall, then heading to the next, glass in hand, with views opening up over the valley every now and then.

Two evenings, one itinerary

The event takes place in August and comes to life from 8:30 PM, when the village's alleys, courtyards, and squares are decorated and illuminated. The route winds through the ancient core of the town, turning it for a few hours into a large space for meeting and tasting: stone arches, lights suspended overhead, and tables set up outdoors. Conviviality is the true theme of these two evenings, even more than the individual dishes: here you eat while walking, sit wherever you find a spot, and chat with your table neighbours.

The flavours of the Alburni tradition

The trail is designed to showcase typical Alburni specialities and local produce. Along the way, you can taste dishes from the peasant tradition of this mountain territory, where the cuisine has always been based on humble ingredients and slow cooking. It is a direct way to understand how people really eat around here, far from the tourist menus of the Cilento coast: the same gastronomic vocation that has made Sicignano famous, also thanks to its historic autumn Chestnut Festival, one of the longest-running in Campania.

Art, music, and performances along the way

Cammenanne Spuzzuliànne is not just about food, however. The trail combines taste, art, and music: between one stop and the next, you will encounter entertainment, musical performances, and characteristic installations designed to enhance the village's historical and cultural heritage. The stone facades, ancient portals, and glimpses of the village become natural backdrops for a widespread show, without a central stage, to be discovered as you stroll.

A village at the foot of the Alburni Mountains

The Municipality of Sicignano degli Alburni has just over three thousand inhabitants and is located at an altitude of about 600 metres, in Campania, in the inland part of the province of Salerno. The town lies at the foot of the Alburni Mountains, the limestone massif nicknamed "the Dolomites of the South," and is part of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park. The Giusso Castle dominates from above, its walls telling the story of the area's feudal past. Surrounding it are various hamlets and districts—from Castelluccio Cosentino to Galdo degli Alburni, from Scorzo to Zuppino—and a network of hiking trails that attract walkers and nature lovers in the summer.

Who organises the event

The event is promoted by the Pro Loco Monti Alburni APS together with the Pro Loco UNPLI Italia – Provincial Committee of Salerno and the Municipality of Sicignano degli Alburni. It is an initiative created to promote local produce and rediscover the charm of the historic centre, which fills up with residents, returning emigrants, and visitors during the evenings of the event. For the municipal administration, it has become a key appointment for tourism promotion, capable of attracting numerous visitors every year thanks to the authenticity of the village and the quality of the gastronomic offering.

Why it's worth the walk

  • An entire historic centre transformed into a tasting trail, not an isolated festival area.
  • Alburni mountain cuisine and tradition, served where it was born.
  • Evening atmosphere with hanging lights, stone arches, and outdoor tables.
  • Music and performances scattered along the route, with no ticket office or single stage.
  • An ideal base for discovering the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park.
