The first shared carnival across three municipalities in the Enna province
The Assoro-Leonforte-Nissoria Traveling Carnival represents a complete novelty for the Enna province: for the first time, in February 2026, the three municipalities of Nissoria, Assoro, and Leonforte chose to move away from traditional separate events to create a single, shared, and traveling carnival. The formula, explicitly defined as "the first traveling carnival in three municipalities," stems from the idea that unity is strength, allowing for the pooling of resources, energy, and creativity to offer a richer and more inclusive celebration.
The event unfolded over several days in February, moving from town to town. The Municipality of Nissoria hosted its carnival days with parades of costumed groups and individual outfits through the town center, while the squares were transformed into spaces for games, music, and wonder. The grand finale took place in Leonforte on Shrove Tuesday, with a long procession along Corso Umberto I.
The program spread across the three centers featured confetti and parades, music and shows, entertainment and parties dedicated to children, as well as gadgets and surprises for everyone. The Children's Carnival, in particular, brought Piazza Duomo in Nissoria to life with a world of games, music, and wonder: baby dance, mascots, balloon art, stilt walkers, shows, and a shower of confetti, with entertainment provided by local artists.
The initiative was coordinated by the Yellow Association together with the municipal administrations of the three towns, in a climate of strong institutional collaboration. For the occasion, an original soundtrack titled Yellow Carnival was composed and arranged, becoming the musical thread that accompanied the entire event. Inland Sicily, and particularly the agricultural heart of the province of Enna, thus rediscovered in the carnival an opportunity for socialization and the promotion of popular traditions, all in the name of folklore and fun for all ages.
The first edition of the Traveling Carnival united Nissoria, Assoro, and Leonforte in a widespread celebration from February 8 to 17, 2026. In Nissoria, the heart of the festival was the historic center, with parades of costumed groups and individual outfits, while Piazza Duomo hosted the Children's Carnival (entertainment from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM) with baby dance, mascots, balloon art, and stilt walkers.
The grand finale was held in Leonforte on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, with a long procession along Corso Umberto I led by the mayors of the three municipalities. The event was accompanied by the original soundtrack Yellow Carnival, sealing the spirit of unity of the first shared carnival in the Enna region.
Nissoria is located in central Sicily, in the province of Enna, along the SS121 road. By car, it is accessible from the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (take the exits for Enna/Leonforte) and via the local road network connecting Assoro, Leonforte, and Nissoria. The nearest train station is Leonforte-Pirato on the Catania-Palermo line.
Carnival events in the squares and town centers are generally free to attend. For updated information on dates, programs, and stops, you can contact the Yellow Association ([email protected]) or the municipalities of Nissoria, Assoro, and Leonforte.
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing to follow the parades on foot and to keep in mind potential traffic changes during the days of the processions. As this is a traveling event, it is advisable to check the specific stop in each of the three municipalities in advance.
