The first Shared Carnival between three towns in the Enna province: Assoro, Leonforte and Nissoria
The Assoro, Leonforte and Nissoria Traveling Carnival is one of the most successful additions to the festival calendar in the province of Enna, in the heart of Sicily. For the first time, in February 2026, the three municipalities decided to pool their energy, masked groups, and organization to create a single, grand Shared Carnival, dubbed the "Yellow Carnival." The core idea is simple yet powerful: instead of three small, separate parades, a single festival that travels from town to town, multiplying the audience and participation.
In Assoro, an ancient village perched at an altitude of over 800 meters with a stunning medieval historic center, the Carnival brings Piazza Umberto I and the town streets to life. The day is dedicated to parades of masked groups and costumes, amidst confetti, streamers, music, and shows designed to engage residents and visitors of all ages. It is a perfect opportunity to discover one of the most picturesque towns in the Enna area in a festive and popular light.
A significant part of the event is dedicated to the little ones with the Children's Carnival: the squares transform into a world of games, music, and wonder, featuring baby dance, mascots, balloon modeling, stilt walkers, shows, and gadgets. In Assoro, the children's event takes place in Piazza Umberto I, while in the other stops, the entertainment reaches Piazza Duomo in Nissoria and Piazza IV Novembre in Leonforte.
More than just a parade, the Traveling Carnival has become a symbol of collaboration between the communities of the Enna province. In the inaugural edition, the three mayors opened the grand finale parade together, a testament to a project that aims to grow and become a permanent fixture of the Carnival tradition in central Sicily. For those visiting the province of Enna in winter, it is a chance to experience an authentic Carnival, far from the major tourist circuits and deeply rooted in the local territory.
The 2026 Carnival was the first edition of the "Shared Carnival" between the towns of Assoro, Leonforte, and Nissoria, in the province of Enna. A traveling formula that brought the festival from town to town, with stops distributed between February 8 and 17. In Assoro, the parade brought Piazza Umberto I and the historic center to life on Sunday, February 15, with masked groups, confetti, streamers, music, and shows for all ages. The Shrove Tuesday grand finale on February 17 in Leonforte saw the three mayors open the procession together along Corso Umberto I, to the notes of "Yellow Carnival," the edition's official soundtrack.
