When White Asparagus Takes Center Stage

Every spring, the hamlet of Gorgo di Latisana, in the Bassa Friulana region of the province of Udine, celebrates its most precious product: white asparagus. This is how Asparagorgo was born, one of the most beloved and long-standing gastronomic festivals in the area, which brings thousands of food lovers to the town's sports field for over a week of celebration. The event has its roots in the first half of the twentieth century and took the name Asparagorgo in 1989.

A Tradition Linked to Thermal Waters

Gorgo asparagus owes its early harvest to the local thermal waters, which promote an early production: this is why the festival begins around April 25th, St. Mark's Day. It is a deep bond between product, territory, and community, preserved and passed down by the Circolo Giovanile di Gorgo (Gorgo Youth Club), which organizes the event with the involvement of the entire town.

Dining Under the Kiosks

The heart of the festival are the food stands, where white asparagus is served in a thousand ways: pie, penne with asparagus, omelet, frico, parmigiana, and the classic asparagus with eggs, alongside gnocchi, fried dishes, grilled meats, and polenta cooked over charcoal. All accompanied by local wines, in a typically Friulian convivial atmosphere.

Music, Dancing, and Fun for Everyone

In addition to good food, Asparagorgo offers a rich entertainment program: live concerts, dance evenings with group dances, ornithological exhibitions, a spring craft market, children's entertainment, and equipped areas for families. A village festival that combines taste, tradition, and social interaction in the heart of the Bassa region.
