The traditional Alta Langa fair featuring market stalls, hazelnuts, and local culture
The Ascension Fair is one of the most deep-rooted events in the calendar of Cortemilia, a charming village in the Alta Langa in the province of Cuneo, in the heart of Piedmont. Linked to the religious feast of the Ascension, the fair brings the entire town to life for a day filled with markets, gastronomy, culture, and community spirit, keeping the deep historical roots of Cortemilia alive.
The beating heart of the event is Borgo San Michele, where traditional stalls are set up to enliven the streets of the center throughout the day. In Piazza Savona, there are rides for children, while local shops remain open and restaurants offer dishes from the Alta Langa, a land of authentic flavors and typical products.
Cortemilia is known as the capital of the Tonda Gentile delle Langhe Hazelnut, an excellence that defines the entire economy and culture of the region. It is no coincidence that the Ascension Fair often dedicates a moment to exploring this iconic fruit: in recent editions, the "Michele Ferrero" Civic Library hosted the meeting "Hazelnut Tree and Hazelnut. Myths, customs, and properties of the iconic plant of Cortemilia," organized by the Merchants' Association.
The fair is also an opportunity to discover the surrounding area. The Langalè Association organizes a hike along the GTL (Great Langhe Crossing) Cortemilia-Bergolo, while the Municipality organizes guided tours of the historic center, exploring its churches, characteristic districts, and evidence of a medieval past. It is a way to combine popular festivities with the promotion of the historical and landscape heritage of the Alta Langa.
Organized by the Municipality of Cortemilia together with the Merchants' Association, the Langalè Association, and local entities, the Ascension Fair is much more than a market: it is the moment when the village gathers, welcomes visitors, and shares its identity through tradition, taste, and hospitality. An event to experience for those who want to know the true spirit of the Cuneo Langhe.
