Art immersion: contemporary art in San Giacomo, Laives
Art immersion is the summer contemporary art festival held in the village of San Giacomo/St. Jakob, in the municipality of Laives/Leifers, in the province of Bolzano, within the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The event is promoted by the lasecondaluna APS cultural association, a local organization active in promoting art, culture, and creativity, affiliated with the South Tyrolean Artists' Association and the Laives Culture Committee.
A festival spread throughout the village
The festival was born from the idea of taking contemporary art out of traditional exhibition venues and into the daily life of the village. Throughout its editions, Art immersion has featured installations, video installations, performances, workshops, and site-specific projects designed to engage with the spaces of San Giacomo. The focus is on participation: residents are not passive spectators but an integral part of the artistic experience, in a journey that unites art, relationships, and public space.

Art immersion is a highlight of the LaivEstate/LeiferSommer summer program, the bilingual calendar through which the City of Laives enlivens the months from June to September with music, sports, culture, and major popular events. The art festival typically takes place in August, bringing artists, curators, and audiences interested in the latest research in contemporary South Tyrolean art and beyond to San Giacomo.

San Giacomo is a quiet village in Laives, a bilingual municipality in the Bassa Atesina just a few kilometers from Bolzano. Art immersion 2026 in San Giacomo
The eighteenth edition of Art immersion is confirmed for the LaivEstate/LeiferSommer 2026 summer program of the City of Laives and will be held in August in the village of San Giacomo/St. Jakob. As per tradition, the festival curated by the lasecondaluna APS association will bring installations, performances, and contemporary art projects to the village, spread across public spaces.

How to get there
Laives is located a few kilometers south of Bolzano, along the Brenner state road (SS12). By car, it can be reached from the A22 Brenner motorway (Bolzano Sud exit). By train, the reference station is Bolzano, connected to Laives by urban and suburban buses.
