The rhythm of the land, the flavors of the region
During the longest weekend of the year, when the light of the summer solstice lingers on the stone roofs, the medieval village of Civitavecchia di Arpino transforms into the stage for Arpinum Solstice of Taste. The event, subtitled 'The rhythm of the land, the flavors of the region', celebrates the deep bond between culture, agriculture, and gastronomy in Ciociaria, the rural heart of the Frosinone province in Southern Lazio.
For two days, the historic center of Civitavecchia—the ancient pre-Roman acropolis with its polygonal walls and pointed arch—hosts the 'TipicAmente Ciociaro' market, where local producers offer the best of the region's food and wine: extra virgin olive oil, honey, cheeses, wines, and traditional peasant products, selected and promoted by ARSIAL and the Lazio Region. Strolling through the stalls is the best way to get to know a land that has made authenticity its hallmark.
Alongside the tastings, the program offers taste workshops—dedicated to lavender, honey, pizza, and extra virgin olive oil—designed to actively engage the public with practical demonstrations led by the producers. There is no shortage of live art, DJ sets, and concerts that enliven the evenings, turning every corner of the village into a small open-air theater.
Hosting the Solstice of Taste among the stones of Civitavecchia means combining the pleasure of the table with the discovery of one of the most evocative villages in Lazio. The Municipality of Arpino, birthplace of Cicero and Gaius Marius, preserves one of the best-preserved megalithic acropolises in Italy in the hamlet of Civitavecchia. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Arpino together with the Municipality, with the support of the Lazio Region, ARSIAL, and the Umberto Mastroianni Foundation.
Those looking for an authentic experience away from the beaten tourist tracks will find a concentration of Ciociaria here: true flavors, folk music, craftsmanship, and the magic of a medieval village illuminated by the evening of the solstice. An ideal event for families, curious travelers, and food and wine culture enthusiasts.
