The historic festival of memory and freedom at Casa Cervi, every July 25th
The Antifascist Pasta of Casa Cervi is now the symbolic event of the Network of Antifascist Pastas, which enlivens dozens of Italian squares every July 25th. It all originated right here, in the Municipality of Gattatico, in the province of Reggio Emilia, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. On July 25, 1943, upon learning of Mussolini's downfall, the Cervi brothers gathered flour, butter, and cheese โ even on credit โ and prepared pasta for the entire village, offering it to everyone without distinction. That gesture of sharing and popular joy has become, year after year, a collective tradition rich in meaning.
The festival is held in the "ai Campirossi" park surrounding Casa Cervi, on Via Fratelli Cervi 9, in the hamlet of Praticello di Gattatico. The location is no accident: the Cervi family lived here, and today the Alcide Cervi Institute, with its Museum housing documents, photographs, agricultural tools, and multimedia testimonies of the peasant resistance, is based here. During the Pasta festival evening, the Museum remains open with free admission.
The evening now follows a well-established and participatory ritual: the opening of the gates in the late afternoon, the welcome in the park, the distribution of pasta, and then the program from the stage with institutional greetings, speeches, music, and performances. Alongside the pasta, traditional Emilian dishes like gnocco fritto and local cured meats are also available.
On the evening of July 25th, the festival also hosts the concluding ceremony of the Resistenza Teatro Festival (Resistance Theater Festival), the theatrical review that every summer brings selected companies from all over Italy to Casa Cervi for performances dedicated to memory, work, and rights. The final award ceremony of the festival thus intertwines with the grand popular celebration of the Pasta festival, in a single day that combines culture, civic engagement, and conviviality.
The Antifascist Pasta festival is open to all, free of charge and with voluntary donations, designed for families, young people, and visitors from all over Italy. It is much more than a shared lunch or dinner: it is a moment of community that each year draws thousands of people to Gattatico to reaffirm, around a plate of pasta, the values of antifascism and the Constitution.
On July 25, 2026, Casa Cervi once again hosts its famous Antifascist Pasta, in the "ai Campirossi" park in Praticello di Gattatico. As every year, the Alcide Cervi Institute opens the park and the Museum for an evening of popular celebration, with free distribution of pasta, Emilian traditional dishes, live music, and speeches dedicated to the values of freedom and democracy.
The day is linked to the conclusion of the Resistenza Teatro Festival (XXV edition, running from July 1 to 25, 2026), with the final award ceremony for the selected theater companies. The 2026 edition is marked by the 80th anniversary of women's suffrage, the birth of the Republic, and the Constitution. Free admission with voluntary donation.
Program to be defined, following the model of the traditional day: opening of the gates in the late afternoon, welcome in the park, distribution of pasta in the evening, program from the stage with institutional greetings and speeches, award ceremony for the XXV edition of the Resistenza Teatro Festival, and live music to close. Details of guests and times will be published by the Alcide Cervi Institute in the weeks preceding the event.
Casa Cervi is located at Via Fratelli Cervi 9, in Praticello di Gattatico (RE), a few minutes from the Terre di Canossa-Campegine exit of the A1 motorway. By train, the reference station is Reggio Emilia, from which you can continue by car or local transport.
The festival takes place in the evening, with gates opening in the late afternoon. The Cervi Museum remains open with free admission during the event.
Free admission with voluntary donation. Pasta is distributed free of charge; gnocco fritto, cured meats, and typical local dishes are also available.
