An evening of dance, music, and tradition in Anterivo
The Anterivo Folk Group Performance is one of the most cherished summer events in the small village of Anterivo (Altrei in German), located in the Bassa Atesina area of the Bolzano province. On a midsummer evening, the local folk group—the Volkstanzgruppe Altrei, a member of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Volkstanz in Südtirol—performs traditional South Tyrolean dances and music for residents and guests alike. As the municipal announcement states, it is "a beautiful evening of dance, music, and tradition.".
Dressed in authentic costumes (Tracht), the dancers present the Volkstanz repertoire, the Alpine folk dances that have accompanied the village's festivals, fairs, and celebrations for generations. The choreography, performed in pairs and groups, is set to live music and reflects the identity of a mountain community that has successfully preserved its language and customs. The performance is an opportunity to experience a living cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation.
Situated at an altitude of approximately 1,200 meters in the heart of the Monte Corno Nature Park, Anterivo is the only municipality in the Val di Fiemme that belongs to South Tyrol rather than Trentino. The village is famous for its lupin cultivation, a tradition dating back over a century: the roasted seeds are used to make the famous "Anterivo coffee," a historical coffee substitute, as well as tea, chocolate, and other local products. The village is surrounded by hiking trails and mountain bike routes, making Anterivo a popular destination for nature lovers.
The folk group performance is part of a particularly vibrant summer calendar: from the Voltruier Kirchtag patronal feast in San Giacomo to the Anterivo summer evenings (Voltruier Sommerabende) and concerts by the local brass band (Musikkapelle Altrei). Each event is an opportunity to taste South Tyrolean specialties and experience the authentic atmosphere of an Alpine village in the Trentino-Alto Adige region.
The event is free to attend and is open to the entire community and visitors vacationing in the Bassa Atesina area. For the exact time and location of the performance, we recommend checking the Anterivo municipal website or contacting the town hall directly.
The 2026 edition of the Anterivo Folk Group Performance is scheduled for August 12, 2026, as announced on the official website of the Municipality of Anterivo. The evening, with free admission, features "dance, music, and tradition" with the Volkstanzgruppe Altrei in traditional costumes. The detailed program, including the exact time and location of the performance, has not yet been published: we recommend checking the municipal website in the days leading up to the event.
Anterivo can be reached by car from the Adige Valley by heading up towards the Bassa Atesina; it is the only municipality in the Val di Fiemme located in South Tyrolean territory. The nearest train station is Ora/Auer, on the Brenner line, from which you can continue by car or local transport.
Free admission. For the exact time and location, please consult the Anterivo municipal website (comune.anterivo.bz.it) or call the town hall (+39 0471 882021).
Located at an altitude of about 1,200 meters, it can get chilly in the mountains at night: we recommend bringing a warm layer. Don't miss the chance to taste the local lupin coffee, a village specialty.
