About Anterivo Folk Group

In Anterivo, a small German-speaking village in the Bassa Atesina region nestled within the Monte Corno Nature Park, the local folk group (Volkstanzgruppe Altrei) hosts an evening dedicated to traditional South Tyrolean dance and music. Dressed in authentic costumes (Tracht), the dancers perform the ancient Volkstanz repertoire that has accompanied village life for generations, in a summer event open to both residents and visitors vacationing in the South Tyrolean mountains.

An evening of folklore in the mountains of Anterivo

The Anterivo Folk Group Performance is one of the most cherished summer events in the small village of Anterivo (Altrei in German), located in the Bassa Atesina area of the Bolzano province. On a midsummer evening, the local folk group—the Volkstanzgruppe Altrei, a member of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Volkstanz in Südtirol—performs traditional South Tyrolean dances and music for residents and guests alike. As the municipal announcement states, it is "a beautiful evening of dance, music, and tradition.".

The folk group and traditional dances

Dressed in authentic costumes (Tracht), the dancers present the Volkstanz repertoire, the Alpine folk dances that have accompanied the village's festivals, fairs, and celebrations for generations. The choreography, performed in pairs and groups, is set to live music and reflects the identity of a mountain community that has successfully preserved its language and customs. The performance is an opportunity to experience a living cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation.

Anterivo, a unique village in South Tyrol

Situated at an altitude of approximately 1,200 meters in the heart of the Monte Corno Nature Park, Anterivo is the only municipality in the Val di Fiemme that belongs to South Tyrol rather than Trentino. The village is famous for its lupin cultivation, a tradition dating back over a century: the roasted seeds are used to make the famous "Anterivo coffee," a historical coffee substitute, as well as tea, chocolate, and other local products. The village is surrounded by hiking trails and mountain bike routes, making Anterivo a popular destination for nature lovers.

A summer full of events

The folk group performance is part of a particularly vibrant summer calendar: from the Voltruier Kirchtag patronal feast in San Giacomo to the Anterivo summer evenings (Voltruier Sommerabende) and concerts by the local brass band (Musikkapelle Altrei). Each event is an opportunity to taste South Tyrolean specialties and experience the authentic atmosphere of an Alpine village in the Trentino-Alto Adige region.

Information

The event is free to attend and is open to the entire community and visitors vacationing in the Bassa Atesina area. For the exact time and location of the performance, we recommend checking the Anterivo municipal website or contacting the town hall directly.
