The grand gathering of the Turin Section of the National Alpini Association, hosted in Cumiana for its Group's centenary
Every year, the Turin Section of the National Alpini Association (ANA) celebrates its Section Festival, a grand gathering that rotates among the local groups in the region. In 2026, the honor of hosting the event fell to the Cumiana Alpini Group, a town of approximately 8,000 residents nestled at the foot of the Cottian Alps in the province of Turin, Piedmont. The choice is no coincidence: the event coincides with the centenary of the founding of the Cumiana Alpini Group, celebrated together with the 106th anniversary of the Turin Section.
The festival spans two days, Saturday, June 6th, and Sunday, June 7th, 2026, transforming the streets and squares of the town center into a sea of black feathers. Hundreds of Alpini, accompanied by pennants and banners from across Piedmont and Italy, bring to life a colorful and solemn parade through the town streets, marked by the notes of the Montenero Fanfare of the Turin Section and the Cumiana municipal band.
The heart of the event lies in meaningful gestures: the arrival of the Section Banner, the flag-raising ceremony, the honors to the Fallen at the Monument, the blessing of the Alpine Bell, and the solemn Holy Mass. The event also features speeches by civil and military authorities and the traditional handover of the "stecca" (the baton), the organizational symbol passed to the group that will host the following year's edition.
More than just an event, the Section Festival is a defining appointment that weaves together historical memory, a spirit of service, and community roots. For Cumiana and the entire Pinerolo area, it represents an opportunity to celebrate a century of Alpine presence in the territory, highlighting the values of solidarity and attachment to traditions that have always distinguished the Piedmontese Alpini.
The 2026 Section Festival celebrated a double anniversary: the hundred years of the Cumiana Alpini Group and the 106 years of the Turin Section of the National Alpini Association. The town in the Pinerolo area was filled with pennants and banners from all over Piedmont and Italy, with the grand parade accompanied by the Montenero Fanfare and opened by children from the local nursery school. The religious moment featured a solemn Mass presided over by Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, Archbishop Emeritus of Genoa, with the choir performing the Alpini Prayer. At the end, the organizational "stecca" was handed over to the Parella Group of Turin, which will host the 2027 Section Festival.
The festival takes place in the streets and squares of the center of Cumiana (TO), in the Pinerolo area, Piedmont Region. The main ceremonies are held at the Monument to the Fallen and in the parish church.
By car: Cumiana can be reached from Turin in about 40 minutes via the road towards Pinerolo / Piscina. By train: the reference stations are Pinerolo or Turin, with bus connections to Cumiana.
The event is held outdoors and is free and open to the public. It is recommended to follow the ANA Turin Section channels for updated schedules of the parade and ceremonies.
