The summer festival of the Municipality of Portici, spanning the Parco a Mare, Villa Mascolo, and the Bourbon Palace
R...Estate a Portici is the summer program that the Municipality of Portici, in the Metropolitan City of Naples (Campania), organizes every year to entertain residents and visitors from July to September. The 2026 edition runs from July 9 to September 20: nearly three months of performances held in open-air spaces overlooking the sea, historic villas, and monastic cloisters, under the patronage of the Campania Region, the Metropolitan City of Naples, and the Fondazione Ente Ville Vesuviane.
The format is that of a widespread festival: rather than a single stage, it is a network of city venues that light up in turn, bringing programming to different parts of the municipal territory and showcasing an architectural heritage that, in Portici, is among the densest of the Vesuvius 'Golden Mile'.
Theater is the most recognizable part of the program. In 2026, the festival opened with Vincenzo Salemme and his play ...e fuori nevica!, a landmark show of his fifty-year career, performed at Villa Mascolo on July 9 and 10 as the start of his national tour. He was followed by Massimiliano Gallo with Lettera ad Eduardo, a heartfelt tribute to the Eduardo De Filippo tradition, and Lina Sastri with Voce e notte, la mia musica.
At the Parco a Mare, the programming focuses on popular comedy with free admission: Paolo Caiazzo with Terroni si nasce and Biagio Izzo with Un italiano di Napoli are among the most anticipated events in August.
Alongside theater, the program dedicates ample space to music. The Reggia di Portici hosts the Lirica in Reggia evening, while Madama Butterfly will be performed at Villa Mascolo in September. The Neapolitan repertoire takes center stage at the Parco a Mare with concerts by Maria Nazionale, Incanto napoletano by Mario Maglione, the Serenata napulitana in mid-August, and the Cantata popolare - Il suono della tradizione, which closes the festival on September 20.
The municipal administration's choice is intentionally popular: most evenings are free and open to the public, while only a few national-level shows require tickets, available through standard booking channels. This formula has allowed the festival to establish itself over the years as the main cultural hub of the Portici summer, capable of attracting audiences from neighboring Vesuvius towns, from Ercolano to San Giorgio a Cremano.
Portici is one of the most densely populated cities in Italy, stretching between Mount Vesuvius and the sea along the Golden Mile, where the Neapolitan nobility built their villas in the 18th century. The Bourbon Palace, commissioned by Charles of Bourbon starting in 1738, is the town's iconic monument and the ideal starting point for a visit that can continue toward Parco Gussone, the Granatello port, and the excavations of Ercolano, just a few minutes away. Attending a festival performance is also a unique way to experience these sites, with evening lighting and the audience seated amidst historic gardens.
The 2026 festival opens on July 9 at Villa Mascolo with Vincenzo Salemme and closes on September 20 at the Parco a Mare with a popular cantata dedicated to the Neapolitan musical tradition. In between, nearly three months of events alternating between big names of Neapolitan theater, free comedy evenings on the seafront, and moments dedicated to opera in the halls and gardens of the Bourbon Palace.
The distribution of venues is an integral part of the project: ticketed shows are mainly hosted at Villa Mascolo, while the Parco a Mare remains the space for free and popular programming. The Cloister of the Convent of Sant'Antonio di Padova hosts more intimate events, including readings and small musical ensembles.
The program is subject to change: it is recommended to check dates and times on the official channels of the Municipality of Portici before traveling.
