Alvito Sheep Festival

A festival born from the pastoral tradition of the Comino Valley

The Alvito Sheep Festival is a young yet already beloved gastronomic event held in Alvito, a village in the Comino Valley in the province of Frosinone, Southern Lazio. Launched in 2025, the festival celebrates mutton, a symbolic product of the ancient pastoral economy of Ciociaria, bringing the entire community together for an evening dedicated to taste and conviviality.

The setting: the Piazza dei Cappuccini belvedere

The event takes place in Piazza dei Cappuccini, Alvito's belvedere, a panoramic viewpoint offering sweeping views of the valley and surrounding mountains. As dusk falls, the food stalls come to life and the square fills with music, lights, and aromas, offering visitors an authentic experience of a Ciociarian village.

The flavors of Alvito mutton

The heart of the festival is, of course, the mutton, the star of numerous traditional local recipes prepared by local associations. Highlights from the stalls include:

• Sheep arrosticini and grilled skewers;
• Pasta with mutton ragù, a classic peasant dish;
• Meatballs in sauce and sandwiches with sausage and capocollo;
• Local cheeses, desserts, gelato, regional wines, and craft beer.

Music, DJ sets, and entertainment for everyone

The festival combines gastronomy with a rich entertainment program. Evenings are accompanied by live music, featuring performances by local groups such as the Cantori in Terra di Lavoro, and continue with DJ sets late into the night. For families, a dedicated kids' area with games and inflatables is set up, ensuring fun for all ages.

Organized by the Pro Loco and the Apecora association with the patronage of the Municipality of Alvito, the festival is an opportunity to rediscover the pleasure of being together and to introduce visitors to the traditions and flavors of this corner of the Lazio Region. Admission is free, creating a joyful and welcoming atmosphere that makes the Alvito Sheep Festival a must-visit for lovers of authentic food festivals and great village cuisine.
