The Altavilla Milicia Carnival: masks, dancing, and local specialties
The Altavilla Carnival is one of the most cherished traditions in Altavilla Milicia, a coastal town in the Province of Palermo overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea in Sicily. During the carnival season, the town is filled with confetti, costumes, and music, creating a community celebration that brings together families, from the youngest children to adults.
The program is designed to cater to every age group. Children can enjoy costume parties at the Municipal Playground, featuring games, entertainment, and plenty of outdoor fun. For adults, there are dance evenings at the Plesso Zucchetto, with group dancing and music lasting late into the night. A highlight of the event is the classic best costume contest, where creative outfits and disguises compete for the top prize.
The event is the result of a collaboration between the ASD Blasius Club and the Pro Loco Altavilla Milicia APS, two local associations that manage the organization of the various evenings and activities for children each year. Their dedication keeps alive a tradition that stands as one of the most anticipated events of the winter in Altavilla.
Between the various events, visitors can enjoy tastings of local products, which pair the fun of the festival with the delicious flavors of Sicilian cuisine. The Altavilla Carnival is the perfect opportunity to rediscover the local culinary heritage and experience the warmth of an authentic community celebration.
A simple and genuine event that brings shared joy to Altavilla Milicia in the heart of winter, confirming the Carnival as one of the community's most beloved moments.
The 2026 Altavilla Carnival brought Altavilla Milicia to life from February 7 to 17 with a calendar full of events for all ages, thanks to the collaboration between the ASD Blasius Club and the Pro Loco Altavilla Milicia APS. Dance evenings at the Plesso Zucchetto, children's costume parties, and the best costume contest marked the festive days, accompanied by the essential tastings of local products.
Throughout the event: children's games, group dancing, dance evenings, and tastings of local specialties.
The dance evenings are held at the Plesso Zucchetto in Altavilla Milicia (PA), while the children's costume parties take place at the Municipal Playground.
Altavilla Milicia is located approximately 30 km east of Palermo along the Tyrrhenian coast. It is accessible by car via the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (Altavilla Milicia exit) and by train via the Palermo-Messina line (Altavilla Milicia station).
The event is organized by the ASD Blasius Club and the Pro Loco Altavilla Milicia APS. For the updated program, please visit the website altavillamilicia.com.
