About Trekking to Monte Faggiola

An 11 km ring hike that takes you from the EcoPark of Casteldelci to the summit of Monte Faggiola, in the heart of the Apennines between Emilia-Romagna, Marche, and Tuscany. Organized by the Altaterra A.P.S. association, the walk follows woods and ridges to the mysterious place where the ruins of the home of Uguccione della Faggiola, the Ghibelline leader mentioned even by Dante Alighieri, rest. A half-day adventure designed for those who love mountains and history.

A trek between nature and history in Casteldelci

The Trekking to Monte Faggiola is a guided hike organized by the association Altaterra A.P.S. in the territory of Casteldelci, a small village in the Province of Rimini nestled in the upper Valmarecchia, where Emilia-Romagna meets Marche and Tuscany. The departure is set at the EcoPark of Casteldelci, the naturalistic area overlooking the village lake, from which a ring route begins through woods, pastures, and Apennine ridges.

Monte Faggiola and Uguccione

The destination of the hike is the summit of Monte Faggiola, a place full of charm and mystery. Here, the ruins of the home of Uguccione della Faggiola, the famous Ghibelline leader traditionally born in these lands around 1250, still rest today. A condottiero, podestร  of Arezzo, Pisa, and Lucca, Uguccione was such an important figure that he was even mentioned by Dante Alighieri, who, according to tradition, was his guest during his exile. Walking to this summit therefore means retracing a piece of medieval history, immersed in one of the wildest and most authentic landscapes of the Romagna Apennines.

Route characteristics

It is a ring route of about 11 kilometers, with a total elevation gain of 600 meters and an estimated duration of about 5 hours, including stops. The difficulty is classified as medium: the trail requires a minimum of habituation to uphill walking and is therefore recommended for hikers with some experience. Along the way, you cross woods and reach panoramic ridges that offer wide views of the Valmarecchia and the surrounding hills.

The EcoPark and Casteldelci

The EcoPark of Casteldelci is an area immersed in greenery, equipped with a kiosk on the lake, e-bike rental, barbecue areas, and thematic trails, and it is the reference point for the Municipality's outdoor activities. Casteldelci, known among enthusiasts as the "green sea" of the Apennines, is a maze of trails and mule tracks that can be traveled on foot, by mountain bike, or on horseback, perfect for those seeking authentic contact with nature in the Province of Rimini.
