International choirs on the floating stage of the Villabassa lake
The Kurpark concert is one of the most scenic highlights of the Alta Pusteria International Choir Festival, the major international choral event that brings the Puster Valley to life every June. The venue is the Kurpark in Villabassa/Niederdorf, in the Province of Bolzano (South Tyrol): a five-hectare spa park in the town center, featuring a small lake and a floating stage specifically designed for open-air cultural events.
What makes this concert so special is the location: the open-air stage stands on the water, with audience seating facing the lake and the Dolomite peaks serving as a backdrop. In this setting, the voices of international choirs blend with the surrounding nature, lending the performances a lightness and atmosphere that only such a frame can offer. The repertoire ranges from folk and mountain songs to spirituals and gospel, from sacred music to opera pieces.
The Villabassa concert is not an isolated event, but one of the many stages of the festival, which was founded in 1998 and has become one of the most important choral events in Europe. Over the course of five days, dozens of choirs perform in about sixty concerts spread across more than forty venues between the municipalities of the 3 Zinnen Dolomites holiday area and the Plan de Corones — from Dobbiaco to San Candido, from Sesto to Brunico, and into the side valleys. The festival is non-competitive: each choir takes the stage to freely share its repertoire, without rankings or juries.
Villabassa/Niederdorf is one of the historic villages of the Alta Pusteria, famous for its well-preserved center and the Kurpark, the green heart of the town. Its location along the Puster Valley railway line and its proximity to Lake Braies and the Sesto Dolomites make it an ideal destination for combining music with a holiday in the South Tyrolean mountains.
The twenty-ninth edition of the Alta Pusteria International Choir Festival took place from June 10 to 14, 2026, throughout the Puster Valley, featuring over eighty choirs and about sixty concerts in forty venues. In Villabassa/Niederdorf, in the Province of Bolzano, the event was held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM, on the floating stage of the Kurpark.
As per tradition, the concert on the lake was free of charge: the audience was able to enjoy the performances of international choirs while overlooking the water, with the Dolomite peaks in the background. The repertoire, consistent with the festival's non-competitive spirit, ranged from sacred music and gospel to opera pieces and folk songs.
The concert is one of approximately 60 performances of the 29th edition, which brought together over 80 choirs in more than 40 venues across the Alta Pusteria and Plan de Corones areas. The complete list of choirs assigned to each venue and detailed schedules are published annually on the official website festivalpusteria.org.
The concert is held at the Kurpark in Villabassa/Niederdorf, at Via Stazione 1, in the town center. The park is easily accessible on foot from the Villabassa train station, served by the Puster Valley line (Fortezza–San Candido). By car, it can be reached via the SS49 Pusteria road.
As with most events of the Alta Pusteria International Choir Festival, admission to the concert is free.
The detailed festival program, including times, venues, and choirs for each performance, is published every year at the beginning of June on the official website festivalpusteria.org. In case of bad weather, open-air events may be subject to change.
