The touring festival of the year's best mountain films at the Haus der Berge in Sesto
The Alpen Film Festival is a cinematic tour dedicated to mountain films that stops annually in Sesto (Sexten), a town in the Upper Puster Valley in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Screenings are held at the Haus der Berge, the town's multifunctional center located at the foot of the famous Sesto Dolomites. Originally conceived as a traveling showcase visiting numerous locations across the Alps, the festival offers the public a selection of the year's best mountain-themed films.
Each edition presents a collection of five documentaries, totaling approximately 110 minutes. These are stories of men and women crossing borders and mountains, tales of climbing, friendship, freedom, and a deep connection with the alpine environment. The selection, curated by directors, mountaineers, festival directors, and authors, ranges from great Himalayan feats to the daily life of mountain farms, from backcountry skiing to two-wheeled adventures among the peaks.
The screening at the Haus der Berge places the event in a setting of extraordinary beauty: Sesto is the gateway to the Sesto Dolomites Nature Park, dominated by the spires of the Sesto Sundial and the famous Croda Rossa. Watching mountain films in this very scenery adds a special emotional value, turning the evening into a moment of connection between enthusiasts, hikers, and curious visitors alike.
Admission to the Alpen Film Festival in Sesto is free. Screenings are in German and are open to both local valley residents and the many guests visiting the resort during the summer. The event is organized in collaboration with the Sesto Tourist Association (Tourismusverein Sexten) and the production company Alpen Licht Spiele.
Sesto is one of the most fascinating stops on the Alpen Film Festival tour, which changes its theme and program every year. After five years of activity, the festival has become a benchmark for alpine culture, capable of combining the excitement of the big screen with a passion for the mountains. For Sesto and the entire Upper Puster Valley, it represents an important highlight of the summer calendar, in a territory where the mountains are identity, history, and daily life.
