Ephemeral petal art in the heart of the Salento region

Every summer, the town of Alliste, a small village in lower Salento in the province of Lecce, dedicates two days in August to its Flower Festival. Piazza San Quintino, in front of the Mother Church, turns into a massive open-air canvas: a floral carpet stretching about one hundred meters long and four meters wide, composed of a dozen panels made entirely of petals, leaves, and natural materials. It is considered one of the largest and most evocative flower festivals in Puglia.
The work is brought to life by dozens of volunteers and artists from the Associazione Infiorata Felline, recognized by the Province of Lecce and the Puglia Region. Active in the area since 2019 with this summer event, the association carries on the skilled tradition of Salento's master flower artists: in the hours leading up to the event, expert hands and devoted hearts draw compositions on the ground inspired each year by a different religious and spiritual theme.
The Alliste Flower Festival is not just for contemplation: the floral panels are surrounded by a rich program of artistic paths, live music, family workshops, and tastings of typical Salento products. The most anticipated moment is the pizzica evening, which lights up the streets of the historic center with the overwhelming rhythm of Salento's musical tradition, drawing residents and visitors into dances late into the night.
Located just a few kilometers from the Ionian coast of Salento, Alliste and its hamlet Felline guard a heritage of popular devotion that comes alive every year through these flower festivals. The summer event, distinct from the historic Corpus Domini Flower Festival, attracts visitors from all over Salento and represents an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Puglia, amidst ephemeral art, faith, and traditions.
Details for the 2026 summer edition of the Alliste Flower Festival have not yet been published. As per tradition, the event is expected to take place in August in Piazza San Quintino, with the usual floral carpet created by the volunteers of the Associazione Infiorata Felline. Dates, theme, and program will be announced through the association's official channels. Please check back on this page for updates.
