A long table filling a square in the heart of Bassa Romagna
All Together for Sant'Agata is the community festival that, in Sant'Agata sul Santerno, in the province of Ravenna, fills Piazza Umberto I with a long table open to the entire town. In the heart of Bassa Romagna, in Emilia-Romagna, the initiative was created to preserve and renew the spirit of solidarity that united the inhabitants after the May 2023 flood: not a moment to remember the fear, but to celebrate reconstruction, the affection received, and the desire to build the future of their village together.
The festive day begins in the late afternoon. From 6 PM, the square comes alive with an aperitivo accompanied by the music of the Michele Fenati Quartet, while the evening continues amidst the lights of the long table and the dj set by Max Vassalli, who gets young and old dancing until late at night. The common thread remains conviviality: people sit shoulder to shoulder, reconnect with neighbours and friends, and the square becomes the town's living room once again.
The culinary heart of the festival are the food stalls run by local associations. Volunteers from I Compagni della Scuola, the Pro Loco, Asd Sant'Agata Sport, the Avis, and the Comitato 17 maggio 2023 (the same committee formed during the flood emergency to coordinate aid) cook and serve. The menu features simple, genuine dishes of Romagna tradition, designed to be shared along the tables set up in the square.
The event has a charitable purpose: the proceeds from the evening are allocated to the purchase of useful materials for the community that were lost during the 2023 flood. For this reason, "All Together for Sant'Agata" is much more than a dinner: it is a collective gesture that intertwines gastronomy, music, and civic engagement, and tells the story of a small town in Bassa Romagna's ability to rise again by working as a team.
The event is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Sant'Agata sul Santerno and the Union of Municipalities of Bassa Romagna, with co-financing from the InBassaRomagna Consortium. It is an example of how, in Emilia-Romagna, village festivals and fairs remain authentic occasions for meeting, where the convivial tradition serves a common goal.
