Three days of masks, music, and shows in the heart of the Agira summer

In Agira, in the province of Enna, Carnival is not just celebrated in February: the town has turned its carnival tradition into a summer event as well, the Agira Summer Carnival. For three days, usually in the second half of August, the streets and squares of the historic center fill with masks, confetti, allegorical floats, and music, transforming this inland Sicilian village into a grand open-air stage.
The heart of the event remains the Carnival tradition: masked groups parade through the city streets in colorful costumes with choreography, accompanied by allegorical floats and final musical performances. It is a popular, participatory Carnival that involves associations, schools, and families from Agira and the neighboring towns of the Calatino and Enna areas.
In recent years, the Summer Carnival has added a true Night of Music to the parades, hosted in Piazza degli Eventi, featuring big names from the Italian scene. In 2025, the stage welcomed The Kolors, one of the most popular bands of the moment, for a free-entry concert that drew a massive crowd. The evenings are rounded off by DJ sets and artists who keep the square lively until late at night.
The Agira Summer Carnival is organized with the support of the Municipality of Agira and the collaboration of local associations, and is designed as a celebration open to everyone, with free admission. The formula combines the traditional, family-friendly dimension of daytime parades with the energy of evening concerts, making it one of the most anticipated summer events in the district.
Perched on a hill overlooking the Salso valley, Agira is one of the most characteristic villages in the hinterland of Sicily. Its Carnival, both the winter and summer versions, is a living expression of a community that makes celebration and hospitality a hallmark of its identity. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: the event confirms itself year after year as a staple of the Agira summer tradition.
Agira is located in the province of Enna, in central Sicily. By car, it can be reached via the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (Agira exit). The nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa, about an hour's drive away.
The parades animate the streets of the historic center; the concerts and the Night of Music are held in Piazza degli Eventi.
Admission to the parades and concerts is free.
