About AccogliAMO l'Estate

AccogliAMO l'Estate is the summer festival in San Gennaro Vesuviano that turns Piazza Margherita into a large open-air lounge dedicated to Vesuvian tradition, art, and culture. Created to showcase the agricultural excellence of the Vesuvius plainโ€”such as the long Neapolitan eggplant, San Marzano DOP and Piennolo DOP tomatoes, and river chili peppersโ€”it combines street food, live cooking, music, cabaret, and street performances. Admission is free, with a special focus on local young talent.

A summer festival in the heart of San Gennaro Vesuviano

AccogliAMO l'Estate - Vesuvian Tradition, Art, and Culture is a festival promoted by the Municipality of San Gennaro Vesuviano, in the province of Naples, Campania, bringing several summer evenings entirely dedicated to the identity of the Vesuvian plain to Piazza Margherita. The initiative is part of the Metropolitan City of Naples event calendar and is artistically directed by Michele Perretta. The formula is simple yet effective: the town's main square becomes a large social space for the evening, where traditional cuisine meets the energy of live music and entertainment.

The excellence of the Vesuvius plain in the square

The festival's common thread is local agricultural produce, presented not just as ingredients but as the community's cultural heritage. Each evening is built around a local specialty, offered in both traditional and gourmet versions, with food stalls, tastings, and live cooking shows led by local chefs.

  • Long Neapolitan eggplant, the star of the Melanzana in Festa evening;
  • San Marzano DOP tomato and Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio DOP, celebrated at the Pomodoro Street Fest;
  • River chili pepper from the Vesuvian plain, the heart of the Fiume Piccante evening.

Tastings are accompanied by local wines and beers, with the stated goal of promoting an agricultural supply chain that is among the most iconic in Campania.

Music, cabaret, and street art

The festival's entertainment is designed for all ages. Evenings feature a mix of concerts, classic Neapolitan songs, contemporary circus acts, street performers, magicians, and stilt walkers who animate the square between stalls. Comedy is also a staple, with appearances by faces well-known to the Campanian television audience, while the nights close with DJ sets and collective karaoke that directly involve the citizens.

A space for young talent

One of the most carefully curated aspects of AccogliAMO l'Estate is its focus on youth. The festival reserves space for emerging local talent with singing, rap, and dance contests, offering a real stage to artists who often lack opportunities to perform near home. This is consistent with the event's mission, which aims to build community rather than just provide entertainment.

Piazza Margherita, the community's living room

Piazza Regina Margherita, home to the town hall, is the nerve center of public life in San Gennaro Vesuviano and already hosts most city events, from the Carnival parade to summer sports activities. During the festival, the square is decorated with art installations and food stations, a formula that has proven to attract large crowds every night. The food and wine organization has seen the collaboration of local associations such as Quanto Basta APS and the Pro Loco San Gennaro Vesuviano 1982.

A model for local promotion

Mayor Antonio Russo has described the festival as an experience in local promotion capable of creating moments of sharing and rediscovery of traditions, while the administration has emphasized how synergy between institutions and associations is decisive for truly inclusive projects. For those visiting the Vesuvian area in summer, AccogliAMO l'Estate is an authentic opportunity to get to know the cuisine and social life of an agricultural town on the slopes of Vesuvius, far from the most beaten tourist paths.
