Saint Nicholas, the Patron Saint Par Excellence

In Castelluccio Inferiore, a village in the Pollino region of the Province of Potenza, the day dedicated to the patron saint Saint Nicholas of Myra (Saint Nicholas of Bari), on December 6th, is undoubtedly the town's most important festival. It is a celebration with a very strong identity value, so much so that after more than fifty years of interruption, the community decided to restore it in 2016, returning it to the central role it holds in the life of the village.

Procession and Christmas Atmosphere

The heart of the festival is the procession of the statue of Saint Nicholas through the village streets, accompanied by the lights that illuminate the historic center. The event effectively opens the Christmas season for Castelluccio Inferiore, blending devotional aspects with the warm and intimate atmosphere of the beginning of Advent. Amidst songs, moments of prayer, and conviviality, the entire community gathers around its protector.

Castelluccio Inferiore preserves a charming stone historic center, at the gateway to the Pollino National Park. During this time of year, the village experiences one of its most fascinating seasons, between the patronal feast, the festive lights, and, a few days later, the new wine festival "A' Pricicchia". Visiting Castelluccio Inferiore on December 6th means capturing the most authentic soul of a village in Basilicata, where faith, tradition, and the anticipation of Christmas intertwine in a unique atmosphere.
