The inter-municipal Christmas festival of the Agro Aversano in Villa di Briano
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
A Magical Christmas is the holiday festival that, every December, links six municipalities in the Agro Aversano, in the province of Caserta: Casaluce, Casapesenna, Frignano, San Cipriano d'Aversa (the lead municipality), San Marcellino, and Villa di Briano. The project is funded by the Campania Region as part of initiatives dedicated to promoting tourism, rediscovering traditions, and showcasing local products linked to Mediterranean food and wine culture.
The formula is simple and effective: instead of concentrating everything in one center, the program is distributed across the squares, theaters, and places of worship of the six towns, allowing each community to host its own events without having to travel far. The artistic direction is entrusted to Angelo Cirillo, who described the festival as a celebration of togetherness, built to promote local products, natural beauty, and local culture.
In Villa di Briano, the events are concentrated in two symbolic locations of the town. The first is Piazza Cavour, the town's open-air living room, where the lights are turned on and the most popular moments of the festival take place: live music, marching bands, children's entertainment, and tasting stalls. The second is the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Briano, the place of worship most dear to the locals, a pilgrimage destination on the Sunday after Easter and guardian of precious medieval school frescoes: its theater space hosts more intimate concerts.
The musical programming is the backbone of the project. In the 2025 edition, Villa di Briano featured a gospel concert with a marching band in the square and, in the Sanctuary theater, the San Carlo Choir of Naples together with the Tammurriata Band: a combination that perfectly summarizes the spirit of the festival, capable of putting both the refined Neapolitan tradition and Campanian folk singing on the same bill. In the other municipalities of the network, artists such as Mario Maglione and comedian Mino Abbacuccio also performed, while the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Casaluce, with its 18th-century Neapolitan organ and Giotto-school frescoes, hosted some of the most evocative events.
Every event is accompanied by tastings of typical products, and this is no minor detail. The Agro Aversano is a land of buffalo mozzarella, vegetables, and fruit, and Villa di Briano is known in particular for the cultivation of the melannurca, the so-called queen of apples. The festival was created precisely with the goal of showcasing these excellences along with the artistic and natural heritage of the six municipalities, inviting visitors to discover what is close to home without having to travel far.
For the second consecutive year, the six municipalities have formed a consortium to access funding from the Campania Region, presenting a single shared program. The outcome of the 2025 edition was judged positively by the administrators, who highlighted the value of inter-municipal collaboration in this area of Campania. For visitors, the advantage is concrete: within a few kilometers, one can follow about twenty different events, across squares, churches, and theaters of six neighboring towns.
The festival traditionally takes place throughout the month of December, from the first days until the threshold of New Year's: in 2025, the calendar ran from December 7th to 30th, with twenty events in total. The events in Villa di Briano are generally two or three, concentrated on holidays and weekends. Since the program depends each year on the renewal of regional funding, it is advisable to check the channels of the Municipality of Villa di Briano and the Municipality of San Cipriano d'Aversa, which coordinates the project.
As of the update date of this page, there are no official announcements regarding the 2026 edition of A Magical Christmas in Villa di Briano. The festival is linked to funding from the Campania Region requested jointly by the six municipalities of the Agro Aversano, with San Cipriano d'Aversa acting as the lead: the calendar can therefore vary from year to year and is traditionally presented at a press conference at the beginning of December.
In 2025, the events in Villa di Briano were held in Piazza Cavour and in the theater of the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Briano, featuring a gospel concert, marching band, Christmas train, children's entertainment, and tastings of local products. It is reasonable to expect a similar structure, but until the official announcement arrives, it is not possible to indicate dates, locations, or artists.
To find out the program as soon as it is published, it is advisable to follow the channels of the Municipality of Villa di Briano and the Municipality of San Cipriano d'Aversa, as well as the local press of the Caserta area.
The events in Villa di Briano take place in Piazza Cavour, in the town center, and in the theater of the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Briano. The other events of the festival are held in Casaluce, Casapesenna, Frignano, San Cipriano d'Aversa, and San Marcellino.
By car: Villa di Briano is located a few kilometers from Aversa, in the heart of the Agro Aversano; the center is small and it is best to park in the streets around Piazza Cavour, which may be closed to traffic on festive evenings.
By train: the reference station is Aversa, connected to Naples and Caserta; from there, continue by bus or car.
By plane: Naples-Capodichino Airport is about thirty kilometers away.
The events are held in the square and in municipal spaces. The organization has not announced fees: for indoor shows, it is advisable to inquire in advance at the Municipality regarding access methods and any reservations.
