Sixty years of the Alpini Group in the heart of the Val Lemina
In 2026, the Alpini Group of San Pietro Val Lemina, part of the ANA Section of Pinerolo, celebrates its 60th anniversary. The roots of the association date back to 1931, when twelve Alpini founded the first core group led by Emilio Pons; after the war years, the group was re-established in 1966 by the Pinerolo Section, and it is from this rebirth that the significant sixty-year milestone is measured. It is a celebration that belongs to the entire municipality of San Pietro Val Lemina, a small village in the Metropolitan City of Turin nestled at the entrance of the valley of the same name, just a few kilometers from Pinerolo, in Piedmont.
The program opens on Saturday, June 13th, and Sunday, June 14th, with the 16th edition of "A Day as an Alpino", an initiative designed for children up to 13 years old, held at the parish sports field. For one day, the youngest experience firsthand the group spirit, playful discipline, and values of friendship and altruism that characterize the world of the "Black Feathers," in a joyful atmosphere involving families and volunteers.
The highlight is set for Sunday, June 21st, with the official anniversary day. The morning features the assembly of groups and banners, followed by a parade through the village streets accompanied by a marching band, and Holy Mass in memory of the fallen and the Alpini who have "moved on." The celebration concludes with a convivial lunch at the Salone Polivalente, a traditional moment of sharing that has always sealed Alpine gatherings.
Over the decades, the San Pietro Val Lemina Group has left a tangible mark on the community: the construction of the San Maurizio al Crรฒ Chapel, the monument dedicated to "Alpini and Sailors" in Piazza Piemonte, the forest fire prevention service, and the twinning with the Group of Monghidoro, in the Bologna area. Participating in this festival means connecting with a heritage of popular traditions and that spirit of service that makes the Alpini a precious presence in the small towns of Piedmont.
The 60th anniversary of the ANA Alpini Group of San Pietro Val Lemina is divided into two parts.
