Le Colline del Secchia: Castellarano's Running Race

Le Colline del Secchia is one of the most established running events in the Reggio Emilia area. Every year, at the beginning of summer, the Municipality of Castellarano, in the province of Reggio Emilia (Emilia-Romagna), welcomes hundreds of runners and walkers who compete along the paths and roads that climb through the hills overlooking the Secchia river valley. In 2026, the race will reach its 44th edition, confirming itself as a fixed event on the Emilia running calendar.

A Route Through Hills and River

The competitive race route covers about 11 km, with a positive elevation gain that tests the legs already in the first part: a mixed route between asphalted road and dirt paths, with a challenging climb in the central section and a smoother finish, partly along the cycle path that runs alongside the Secchia. It is a varied and technical route, appreciated by competitive runners for its difficulty but capable of offering suggestive views of the Reggio Emilia hilly landscape.

Competitive Races and Walks for Everyone

The event combines the competitive race, reserved for registered runners with a valid sports medical certificate, with three non-competitive walks of 4, 6, and 11 km, open to families, enthusiasts, and amateurs of all levels. This format makes Le Colline del Secchia an event with a strong popular character, where competition coexists with the desire to be together outdoors on the trails of Castellarano.

A Tradition of the Reggio Emilia Area

Organized by ASD Sportinsieme Castellarano, the race attracts hundreds of participants every year from the provinces of Reggio Emilia and Modena, and is a reference point for running clubs in Emilia-Romagna. The meeting point and start are at Parco Don Reverberi, in the heart of Castellarano, from where the runners head towards the hills along the Secchia.
