The May Day music celebration in Fara San Martino
The 1st May Music Festival is the celebration that every year inaugurates the outdoor event season in Fara San Martino, a small town in the province of Chieti nestled at the foot of the Majella massif, in Abruzzo. Organized by the Associazione Giovani Faresi, the event stems from the local youth's desire to create a day of celebration open to everyone, where music, gastronomy, and social life intertwine in the natural setting of the Colle Marino area.
The festival takes place throughout the entire day of May 1st. Stalls open in the early afternoon, from 1:00 PM, while from 2:00 PM the volume rises and the live music program begins. Local bands alternate on stage, ranging from rock and folk to popular sounds, before giving way in the evening to the DJ set that keeps the crowd going until late. It is an occasion designed primarily for young people, but one that attracts families and curious visitors from all over the area.
Alongside the music, the festival offers food stalls with specialties and dishes to enjoy outdoors, in an informal and convivial atmosphere. This is the soul of Abruzzo village festivals: being together, eating well, and enjoying the holiday in good company, immersed in the greenery surrounding the village.
Fara San Martino is one of the most picturesque places in Abruzzo. Known as the "pasta capital" due to its historic pasta factories powered by the pure water of the Verde river, the village is the gateway to the famous Gole di San Martino and the Majella National Park. It is part of the Borghi Autentici d'Italia (Authentic Villages of Italy) and holds the Orange Flag from the Touring Club. The 1st May Music Festival thus fits into a context of great landscape and cultural value, offering participants the chance to discover this authentic corner of the province of Chieti.
Admission to the festival is free. No reservation is needed: just head to the Colle Marino area on May Day to join the party. A simple and genuine way to celebrate Labor Day with music and good company.
On May 1st, 2026, Fara San Martino hosted a new edition of the festival in the Colle Marino area. The day concluded with a DJ set that entertained the crowd until late. Admission was free, as per the tradition of the event organized by the Associazione Giovani Faresi.
Fara San Martino can be reached by car via the SS84 Frentana; the nearest motorway exit is Val di Sangro (A14). The reference railway stations are Lanciano and Chieti, with bus connections to the village.
Access to the festival is free. Food stalls are open from 1:00 PM, live music from 2:00 PM, and DJ sets in the evening.
Take advantage of the day to also visit the Gole di San Martino and the historic center of the village, among the most beautiful in Abruzzo.
