The sciurilli festival in Castel Morrone, in the heart of the Caserta summer
In the heart of summer, the small town of Castel Morrone, in the province of Caserta, celebrates one of the most authentic symbols of Campanian peasant cuisine: the zucchini flower. The Zucchini Flower Festival, affectionately renamed "Sciurilli Morronesi" in the local dialect, brings the Ganci-Pignatelli Municipal Park in the Largisi district to life every year, transforming it into a grand gathering of flavors, music, and conviviality.
The "sciurillo"โas zucchini flowers are called in the Campanian dialectโis a humble yet precious ingredient of the rural tradition of the Caserta area. During the festival, it is served in many variations: fried in a golden, crispy batter, stuffed, in frittatas, inside zeppole, or as a topping for homemade pasta. The food stalls managed by volunteers from the LiberaMente association also offer other local dishes, paired with regional wines.
Beyond the food and wine, the festival offers live entertainment every evening: folk music, traditional songs, and group dances enliven the municipal park until late. It is a chance for locals and visitors from neighboring towns to come together in a simple, authentic atmosphere that honors the roots of the Morronese community.
Born as a small village feast, the Zucchini Flower Festival has become one of the most anticipated summer events in the Caserta province's festival calendar over the years, reaching its eleventh edition in 2026. The event is organized by the LiberaMente association of Castel Morrone, which manages every detail with the goal of promoting the village's products and traditions.
Nestled on the first hills separating the Caserta plain from the gateway to the Sannio region, Castel Morrone is a village tied to the Garibaldian memory of the 1860 Battle of Monte Castello. Visiting the town during the festival allows you to combine the pleasure of good food with the discovery of an authentic corner of inland Campania, far from the most crowded tourist circuits.
The 2026 edition, the eleventh, takes place on the evenings of July 24, 25, and 26 at the Ganci-Pignatelli Municipal Park in Castel Morrone, in the province of Caserta. The LiberaMente association's stalls offer zucchini flowers in numerous preparations, from fried batter to traditional peasant dishes, along with local wines. Every evening, live music, folk songs, and group dances accompany the festival until late.
Castel Morrone is about 12 km from Caserta. By car, it can be reached via the provincial road to Caserta; the nearest motorway exit is Caserta Nord (A1). The reference train station is Caserta, which is connected to the village by local bus lines.
The evenings are held at the Ganci-Pignatelli Municipal Park, in the Largisi district.
Admission is free; we recommend arriving early in the evening to enjoy the freshly fried sciurilli and avoid queues at the stalls. There is a large outdoor area suitable for families.
