Jazz in the cellars of the Bolognese Hills, between wine and mortadella
Zola Jazz & Wine is one of the most beloved music reviews in the metropolitan area of Bologna: a widespread festival that, every spring, brings live jazz directly into the cellars, agriturismos, and historic villas of the Bolognese Hills. Promoted by the Municipality of Zola Predosa, in the Province of Bologna (Emilia-Romagna), the event also involves the neighboring territories of Casalecchio di Reno and Monte San Pietro, combining great music with the area's food and wine culture.
The 27th edition is titled "Gessi in Jazz", a tribute to the lunar and karst landscape of the Parco regionale dei Gessi Bolognesi, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2023. From May 27 to June 28, 2026, eleven concerts will take place in the cellars and most picturesque locations of the hills, with artistic direction by Egea Records alongside musicians Claudio Carboni and Carlo Maver, in collaboration with the ComunicaMente association.
Each evening follows the same ritual that has made the review famous: at 8:30 PM, it begins with a free tasting of the wines produced on-site, accompanied by local specialties - mortadella and, from this year, also Parmigiano Reggiano - followed at 9:15 PM by the open-air concert, immersed in the hilly vineyard landscape. The common thread is the dialogue between jazz and the wine excellence of the Bolognese Hills, the first DOC area in the province.
Admission to the concerts has always been free, subject to availability, as is the tasting: a choice that aims for maximum accessibility and invites visitors to discover the hilly hinterland of Bologna, far from the most touristy circuits. The program alternates established national artists with young talents, often from conservatories, in a musical journey that ranges from classic jazz to Latin and Mediterranean sounds.
Zola Jazz & Wine is part of the Bologna Estate program, the calendar of events promoted by the Metropolitan City of Bologna and the local municipalities. It's an opportunity to experience the hills south of Bologna on evenings that combine good music, quality wines, and the authentic flavors of Emilia-Romagna.
The 2026 edition opens on Wednesday, May 27, with a special preview at Palazzo Albergati in Zola Predosa: the Spiritual Trio will perform with the project Welcome Back, led by trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso, with Alberto Marsico on Hammond organ and Alessandro Minetto on drums. From there, the review gets underway with eleven events spread across the cellars of the Bolognese Hills and the Gessi Park.
Among the concerts in the program: Boris Cevapcici 6tet (June 6, Cantina Tizzano in Casalecchio di Reno), Jacopo Fagioli 4tet (June 7, Cantina Manaresi), Federico Califano Trio (June 12, Azienda Agricola Maria Bortolotti), Vito Bassi 4tet with Simone Zanchini (June 13, Cantina Gaggioli), the Swingin Cats with Davide Brillante and Matteo Raggi (June 20, Oro di Diamanti), and saxophonist Achille Succi in a solo sunset concert in the Parco dei Gessi (June 21). The closing on June 28 features the Latin Music Band of the Tolima Conservatory at the Ca' la Ghironda Museum of Modern Art.

Each concert has a different venue: it is advisable to check the location of each evening on the official website.
Tastings begin at 8:30 PM, concerts at 9:15 PM. In case of bad weather, events will be held indoors: check for any changes on the official channels.
Admission to the concerts is free, subject to availability, as is the tasting of Bolognese Hills wines, mortadella, and Parmigiano Reggiano. Reservations are recommended through the official channels of the review.
The area is hilly and partly poorly served by evening public transport: arrival by car is recommended. Zola Predosa can be reached from Bologna via the Bazzanese road (SS569) or the pedecollinare road.
