The free and contemporary market at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa in Palermo
Zero Market is a free and contemporary market that debuted in Palermo, bringing a fresh approach to the intersection of creativity, craftsmanship, and urban culture to the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa. The event takes place at Spazio Zero, one of the pavilions of the former Officine Ducrot repurposed as a cultural hub, transforming these industrial spaces into a vibrant center for art, exchange, and social interaction in the heart of Palermo, the capital of Sicily.
The core of Zero Market is its exhibition layout, divided into thematic areas that showcase the independent creative scene of Sicily and beyond. Visitors can explore stalls featuring handmade goods and designer crafts, visual arts, illustrations, photography, printed media, and independent publishing, alongside spaces dedicated to vinyl, vintage, and second-hand clothing. It is a space designed for those who love discovering unique pieces, supporting emerging creators, and valuing small-scale production over mass-market logic.
Beyond the market, Zero Market offers a program of activities that make it a truly participatory event. The Swap Area, dedicated to exchanging clothes and accessories, promotes reuse and the circular economy; the creative recycling and upcycling areas highlight a sustainable approach to production. The event also features a wellness area with massages and holistic practices, a food & drink zone with contemporary culinary offerings, and a dedicated space for children. The soundtrack is provided by DJ sets and live music performances that animate the event from morning until night.
The choice of the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa is no coincidence: this large complex, located in the Zisa district of Palermo, is one of the city's main hubs for independent cultural production, housing theaters, film schools, exhibition spaces, and associations. Zero Market fits perfectly into this context, showcasing local talent, stimulating urban culture, and promoting sustainable practices through creative recycling and reuse. Admission is free and the area features convenient on-site parking, making the event accessible to families, curious visitors, and art and craft enthusiasts alike.
Promoted by the Zero Market community in collaboration with various local associations, the event was created to provide a platform for independent artists and artisans, foster connections between producers and the public, and highlight the vitality of Sicily's contemporary creative scene. In just a few editions, Zero Market has established itself as one of the most anticipated events for those seeking creativity, sustainability, and live culture in Palermo.
The 2026 edition of Zero Market took place on Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Spazio Zero in the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa, Palermo. The free and contemporary market opened its doors on Saturday from 11:00 AM to midnight and on Sunday from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with free admission.
In this edition as well, the exhibition layout was divided into thematic areas: designer crafts and handmade goods, vintage and second-hand items, vinyl, illustration, independent publishing, photography, and design, alongside the swap area for exchanging clothes, creative recycling spaces, a wellness area, and a food & drink zone. DJ sets and live music performances punctuated the days. The event reaffirmed Zero Market's role as a meeting point for independent artists, artisans, and the public in the creative heart of Palermo.
