The Skateboarding World Cup between Ostia and Colle Oppio, the first stop on the road to Los Angeles 2028
Every June, the Metropolitan City of Rome, in the Lazio region, hosts one of the most anticipated stops on the international skate calendar: the WST World Cup Rome, a qualifying event for the World Skateboarding Tour organized by World Skate, the international federation recognized by the IOC. For two weeks, the Capital transforms into a massive urban village, attracting over 440 athletes from more than 70 nations across five continents.
The event is divided into two distinct competitions, each held at a landmark venue for Roman skating:
The Skateboarding World Cup is accompanied by Scootering and Roller Freestyle stages, also hosted at The Spot in Ostia, making the event a true celebration of urban roller sports.
The WST World Cup Rome is more than just a show: it is the first stage of the Olympic qualification cycle for the Los Angeles 2028 Games. Every run awards valuable points for the world rankings, drawing the biggest names in the sport to Rome, from Paris 2024 Olympic stars to emerging young talents. The Italian national team, the Azzurri, also competes on the course, ranging from Park veterans to Street riders.
An entire urban ecosystem dedicated to the public grows around the competitions. The Parco di Caracalla comes alive with a Skate Village featuring street art, artisans, and local stands, while Ostia hosts free workshops, 3x3 basketball tournaments, DJ sets, and evening parties. A dedicated space is also reserved for adaptive skate, with inclusive sessions that highlight the most open and participatory side of the sport.
Admission to all competitions is free, both in Ostia and at Colle Oppio: anyone can watch the world's best skaters perform live. The event, promoted by World Skate in collaboration with the Italian Roller Sports Federation (FISR), Sport e Salute, and Roma Capitale, has become a staple of the Roman summer and a benchmark for the city's youth and urban culture.
The WST World Cup Rome 2026 confirmed Rome as one of the world capitals of skateboarding. The Park week (June 7-14) was held at The Spot in Ostia, while the Street competition (June 14-21) animated the Colle Oppio Playground, with the Colosseum in the background. In parallel, from June 15 to 20, Ostia also hosted the Scootering and Roller Freestyle World Cups.
Olympic champions and international stars of the discipline were seen on the course, alongside the Italian national team. Surrounding the competitions, the Skate Village at Parco di Caracalla and the free activities in Ostia made the event a great urban celebration, open and participatory.
The Spot — Ostia (Via della Martinica 13): Take the Roma-Lido train from Porta San Paolo station (Metro B, Piramide). Colle Oppio (Viale del Monte Oppio): Metro B, Colosseo stop, just a few steps from the Colosseum; served by numerous bus lines.
Free admission to all competitions and Skate Village activities. No tickets required.
Bring a hat and water: sessions take place outdoors in mid-June. Finals are the most crowded moments, so arriving early is recommended. Many competitions are streamed live on the World Skate YouTube channels.
