About Allumiere Wild Boar Festival

In Allumiere, nestled in the heart of the Tolfa Mountains, the Contrada Ghetto brings the king of the forest to the table. The Wild Boar and Alum Trails Festival combines traditional cuisine, three nights of live music, and guided hikes along the ancient alum mining paths—the white gold of the Renaissance. Enjoy pappardelle with wild boar ragù, bruschetta, and local specialties at Piazzale Cesare Moroni, with free admission and tables under the stars.

The wild boar festival in the heart of the Tolfa Mountains

The Wild Boar and Alum Trails Festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in Allumiere, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital perched among the woods of the Tolfa Mountains in northern Lazio. Organized by the Contrada Ghetto Association, the event takes place in Piazzale Cesare Moroni, transforming the village into a lively gathering spot where traditional cuisine meets music, nature, and the local mining history.

Wild boar, the star of the table

Wild boar is the undisputed star of the festival, cooked just as it was in the past: slowly, with forest herbs. The Contrada Ghetto food stand offers dishes that reflect the gastronomic identity of the Tolfa Mountains:

  • Pappardelle with wild boar ragù, the festival's signature dish
  • Wild boar and sausage bruschetta
  • Grilled pork sausages, snails, and bacon with peas
  • Mint pesto, yellow bread, extra virgin olive oil, and local wine
  • Traditional desserts like fruit tarts and hazelnut tozzetti

Every edition brings something new: the Contrada kitchen experiments with new recipes while remaining faithful to authentic home-cooked flavors.

The Alum Trails: trekking through history

The festival is about more than just food. The name refers to the Alum Trails, the ancient paths linked to the extraction of alum, once known as the white gold of the Renaissance. From the 15th century, this industry made Allumiere one of the most important centers in the Papal States, fueling wool production across Europe. On the final day, in collaboration with the Trekkiamo association, guided hikes are organized through the Beech Forest and along the scenic routes that cross the beech woods and the remains of ancient mines.

Music and conviviality

For all three evenings, live music accompanies the festivities, featuring concerts, performances, and moments of conviviality that animate the square until late at night. It is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic village in the Province of Rome, far from the beaten tourist path, where the local community and its districts proudly preserve their traditions.
