International contemporary dance platform in Udine
WhatWeAre is the international contemporary dance platform promoted in Udine by ADEB – Associazione Danza e Balletto. More than just a show, it is a competition and a showcase that annually selects choreographers and dancers from Friuli, Italy, and abroad, offering winners artistic residencies, scholarships, and festival participations. The 11th edition will take place on May 1st and 2nd, 2026 at the Teatro San Giorgio in Udine.
The event combines training and performance. Friday is dedicated to free masterclasses at the ADEB venue – focusing on contemporary techniques and a choreographic workshop – while on Saturday, the Teatro San Giorgio hosts the live performances of the finalists and the awards ceremony. The selected works come from Italy, Croatia, and Germany, confirming the project's international scope.
WhatWeAre offers numerous awards, including financial prizes provided by CSS Teatro stabile di innovazione del FVG and the Fondazione Accademia Nazionale di Danza di Roma, as well as residencies and invitations to festivals. For young choreographers, it is a concrete opportunity for visibility and professional growth, engaging with a jury and audience attentive to new trends.
The platform is realized by ADEB in collaboration with the Municipality of Udine, CSS Teatro stabile, and the magazine Danza&Danza, directed by Elisabetta Ceron and Massimo Gerardi. The program is completed by an interactive photographic exhibition by David Raccanello on the aesthetics of movement, created with artificial intelligence technologies. For dance enthusiasts, it is a quality event in the heart of Udine's spring.
