The cross-border jazz festival of the Collio, between Italy and Slovenia
For almost thirty years, Jazz & Wine of Peace has transformed Cormòns and the Collio into one of Europe's autumn jazz capitals. Founded in 1998 and organised by Circolo Controtempo, the festival has made the concept of border — geographical, between Italy and Slovenia, but also internal — its distinctive feature: a place where opposites meet and jazz becomes a language of dialogue and peace.
The formula is unique in the national panorama: major evening concerts take place in four theatres in the cross-border area — the Teatro Comunale in Cormòns, the Nuovo Teatro Comunale in Gradisca d'Isonzo, the Kulturni Dom in Gorizia, and the one in Nova Gorica, just across the border — while during the day, music spreads through about twenty wineries, historic residences, and villas in the Friulian Collio and Slovenian Brda. You can listen to jazz while sipping a glass of Friulano or Ribolla Gialla, amidst the rows of vines that shape the hills.
The artistic direction is entrusted to Enrico Bettinello, one of the most authoritative names in Italian jazz, who has given the festival an international and contemporary edge. Over the years, the stage has hosted absolute protagonists of the world scene: from William Parker to James Brandon Lewis, from Nubya Garcia to The Necks, up to Calibro 35 and a strong contingent of new European voices.
Promoted with the support of the Municipality of Cormòns and the local municipalities, Jazz & Wine of Peace is much more than a musical review: it is a cultural manifesto that tells the story of a borderland made of wine, landscape, and friendship between peoples. An unmissable event for those seeking quality music in a setting to be discovered with a glass in hand.
Jazz & Wine of Peace returns to Cormòns, the cross-border jazz festival of the Collio. The 2026 edition, the 29th, is scheduled from October 22nd to 25th with the usual formula that combines major evening concerts in the theatres of Cormòns, Gradisca d'Isonzo, Gorizia, and Nova Gorica with daytime events in the wineries and historic residences of the Italian-Slovenian territory.
In 2026 too, the festival, organised by Circolo Controtempo, focuses on an international programme of absolute quality, in the spirit of dialogue between peoples and the encounter between music and wine.
The detailed programme for the 29th edition, with artists and concert times in theatres and wineries, will be announced in the coming weeks by Circolo Controtempo. The planned structure follows the traditional format: evening concerts in the four theatres (Cormòns, Gradisca d'Isonzo, Gorizia, and Nova Gorica) and about twenty daytime events with tastings in the wineries and villas of the Friulian and Slovenian Collio.
Cormòns can be reached by car from the A4 motorway (Villesse-Gorizia exit) and has a train station on the Udine-Trieste line. Concerts in the wineries and theatres of Gorizia, Nova Gorica, and Gradisca d'Isonzo require travel: a car is recommended.
Evening concerts in the theatres are ticketed, with tickets and season tickets available for purchase through Circolo Controtempo (controtempo.org). Numerous events in the wineries are free entry or include a tasting.
