About Welsberger Fasching

The Welsberger Fasching is the historic carnival celebration in Monguelfo/Welsberg, located in the Puster Valley (South Tyrol). Organized since 1980 by the Faschingsgilde Welsberg, the event centers on the famous Faschingsrevue, a satirical and musical show that fills the Kulturhaus Paul Troger for several nights, followed by the traditional Faschingsball. It is one of the region's most renowned carnival revues, featuring sketches, dance, live music, and a touch of irony regarding local village life.

The Welsberger Fasching, the heart of Puster Valley carnival

In the municipality of Monguelfo-Tesido/Welsberg-Taisten, in the Puster Valley (Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Trentino-South Tyrol), carnival has a specific name: Welsberger Fasching. Born in 1980 from occasional parades and a cheerful masked procession through the village streets, the event is now a true local institution and one of the most well-known carnival revues (Faschingsrevue) in all of South Tyrol.

The Faschingsrevue and the Faschingsball

The core of the event is the Faschingsrevue, a satirical-musical show held at the Kulturhaus Paul Troger in Welsberg. The stage comes alive with comedy sketches, dance numbers, singing, and live music, often featuring surprise guests—all seasoned with a healthy dose of irony about the small and big events of village life. The Saturday evening then continues with the traditional Faschingsball (Narrenball), the carnival dance that keeps the venue's multiple floors buzzing until late at night.

A biennial tradition

The Faschingsgilde Welsberg—founded in 1980 by a group of enthusiasts with the goal of making the audience laugh and organizing a proper carnival in Welsberg—stages the revue every two years, making each edition a highly anticipated event. In 2020, the association celebrated its first 40 years of activity. Notably, one of the Welsberger Fasching choreographies even gave birth to the first all-female Schuhplattler group in South Tyrol, a testament to the deep bond between the event and local folk culture.

More than just a show

Beyond the entertainment, the Faschingsgilde is also known for its charitable commitment: part of the proceeds is regularly donated to non-profit organizations, ranging from cancer patient support to mountain rescue services. The Welsberger Fasching is thus much more than a masked party: it is a defining community event that unites the people of Monguelfo-Tesido through laughter, tradition, and generosity.

Where and when

The evenings take place at the Kulturhaus Paul Troger in the center of Welsberg, usually starting at 8:00 PM. Ticket pre-sales are organized in the weeks leading up to the event directly at the Paul Troger Haus. As this is a biennial event tied to the carnival calendar (between late January and February), it is advisable to check the dates for the next edition on the official Faschingsgilde Welsberg channels.
