Lomellina's Farmhouses Open Their Doors
Welcome to Lomellina is a major regional event promoted by GAL Risorsa Lomellina that invites you to discover the territory through its rice fields, historic villages, farmhouses, and traditions. As part of the Open Farmhouses initiative, Cascina Alberona, in Mortara (Province of Pavia), opens its doors to the public: an opportunity to visit the farm, meet producers, learn about cultivation techniques, and buy local products directly.
Lomellina and Japan, Lands of Rice
The most anticipated moment is the show cooking by Chef Hiro, ambassador of Japanese cuisine in Italy, on the theme "Lomellina and Japan, the Lands of Rice". The chef prepares a Japanese dish using local Lomellina ingredients, in a gastronomic dialogue between two cultures united by the centrality of rice. The show cooking is followed by a book signing for Ichigo Ichie. La via della felicità (Mondadori, 2024).
A Territory to Discover
Lomellina is the vast rice-growing plain in the province of Pavia, a land of farmhouses, rice fields, and historically rich villages. "Welcome to Lomellina" celebrates this heritage with a rich program that, in addition to open farmhouses, includes guided tours, local food festivals, and the return of the historic train "Lomellina Express." In Mortara, Cascina Alberona is one of the most evocative stops on this journey through steam, rice, and tradition.
Welcome to Lomellina — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of "Welcome to Lomellina" runs from May 22 to 24, featuring open farmhouses, guided tours from Robbio, the Breme Food Festival, and the historic "Lomellina Express" train from Milan Centrale. In Mortara, Cascina Alberona is open on May 23 and 24 for "Open Farmhouses": farm tours, meeting producers, and direct purchase of local products. On Sunday, May 24, at 5:30 PM, Chef Hiro's show cooking concludes the day.
